7.5 Prior to the commencement of any activities, workforce will receive an induction
talk on the hazards related to an activity jointly by AEE & CSO.
7.6 Work will be carried out in compliance with Operating Instructions, Guidelines of
PMH- & Project EHS Plan.

8.0 Prior Activities

8.1 Approved method statement for Equipment Erection.
8.2 Prior to the start of electro-mechanical works, it will be ensured that all necessary
equipment and tools are available.
8.3 It shall be ensured that all the tools and equipments are tested and certified for the
good condition and their suitability for the purpose intended. This The ASM / APM will
ensure that the site staff is aware of all the procedures.
8.4 Required Permits are obtained. JSA done and corrective actions are implemented at site.

9.0 Procedure/Method

9.1 Material Handling & Storage

9.1.1 Ensure that different accessories / loose supply material are stored separately
section and size wise labeled and tagged for easy identification.
9.1.2 Check the quantity of cables received from Vendor, damages to cable drums /
outer / turns of the cables & cable ends are sealed properly.
9.1.3 Ensure that while moving the drums by rolling them on ground, it should always
be rolled in the direction of arrow marked on the drum & also Check if all drums
are properly placed with stoppers so that any accidental rolling is avoided &
Confirm tightness of cable drum bolts of flanges before transportation to work
site.
9.1.4 Follow the instructions supplied by Supplier for unloading & handling & Avoid
man climbing on porcelain part.

9.2 Cable Laying & Termination

9.2.1 Ensure that route is clearly defined as per drawing. & necessary approvals are
taken from for roads crossing etc. as applicable. Preplan cut length schedule to
minimize wastage, as per the approval drawings/cables route. Check proper size
of the cable is being laid as per the cable schedule & the IR value of cable(only
for LT & CC cables) before laying.
9.2.2 Pre plan availbilty of adequate qty. of sand /bricks/pre cast slabs /route markers
for protection & cushioning of cables. Ensure that cable support structures are
fabricated / painted strictly as per the approved drawing.

DOCUMENT NO: - SEI/HM/ERE/10.1 Page 5

METHOD STATEMENT
Equipment Erection
9.2.3 For cable laying, the drum are mounted on jacks and cables are pulled along the
route either on roller or manually. cables should not be pulled across hard and
sharp objects and twisted to avoid damage to the insulations. The cables should
not be laid with sharp bends & cables ends are sealed to avoid entry of
moisture/water.
9.2.4 Laying in underground trench: cable trench is excavated and bedding of send is
made at the bottom of the trench.cables are laid and covered with layer of send
and RCC tiles or bricks as per the specification. Pipes are used where cables are
crossing the road and railway tracks. Spare pipe (for future) are also provided at
crossing and sealed. Cable markers are provided at regular interval along the
route, at places like road crossing/near the building and at bends.
9.2.5 Laying on cable trays: the cables are laid directly on the trays as per the location
marked (tray assigned) in the drawing. cables tags are to be provided for each as
per the approved cable schedule at regular interval and ends. Finally cables are
dressed and clamped to the cable tray at regular interval with aluminium
clamps/nylon cable ties as per specification.
9.2.6 Cable Termination: Holes are made in the gland plate as per the size of gland to
be used. Suitable size gland is to be used for glanding of cables. HT cable
terminationis to be carried out as per the procedure given in manufacturer’s
instruction manual by authorized jointer. Before terminating the cable, it should
be supported and clamped properly to avoid any load on the terminals. In control
cables after glanding, ferruling is done as per the cable schedule and the cores
are cut to the required length for termination. While cutting the cores, sufficient
extra length should be taken so that termination can be changed, if required.
Core insulation is removed and lugs are crimped. For crimping, lugs should be of
correct size and the crimping tool/die of the same size should be used. After
crimping, cores are terminated and the final dressing of the cables is done. Spare
cores are dressed separately (in control cables) and ferruled with the cable tag
numbers to identify them.

10.0 Responsibilities
10.1 APM/ASM will ensure that the necessary resources to implement the approved
Method Statement have been allocated to the task.

10.2 The ASM will ensure that the site preparation activities are conducted according to
the approved Method Statement.
10.3 The APM will ensure that the materials being used are in accordance to the Project
Specifications, the approved Material Submittals.

10.4 It is the ASM and ASO responsibility to organize the work in a safe manner to ensure
that safety and protective equipment are being properly utilized.
