OFFICIAL SDA BAPTISMAL VOWS (13)

Seventh-day Adventists do not believe in baptizing infants. A person must be old enough to accept
responsibility for his/her own actions. Baptism is by immersion. In order to be baptized, a
person must agree to this set of thirteen baptismal VOWS:

1. I believe in God the Father, in His Son Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Spirit.

2. I accept the death of Jesus Christ on Calvary as the atoning sacrifice for my sins, and believe that
through faith in His shed blood I am saved from sin and its penalty.

4. I accept by faith the righteousness of Christ, recognizing Him as my Intercessor in the heavenly

5. I believe that the Bible is God's inspired Word, and that it constitutes the only rule of faith and

6. I accept the Ten Commandments as still binding upon Christians; and it is my purpose by the
power of the indwelling Christ, to keep this law, including the fourth commandment, which
requires the observance of the seventh day of the week as the Sabbath of the Lord.

9. I believe in church organization, and it is my purpose to support the church by my tithes and

10. I believe that my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and I will honor God by caring for it,
avoiding the use of that which is harmful, abstaining from all unclean foods, from the use,
manufacture, or sale of alcoholic beverages, the use, manufacture, or sale of tobacco in any of its
forms for human consumption, and from the misuse of or trafficking in, narcotics or other drugs.

11. I know and understand the fundamental Bible principles as taught by the Seventh-day Adventist
Church. It is my purpose, by the grace of God, to order my life in harmony with these principles.

13. I accept that the Seventh-day Church is the remnant church of Bible prophecy, and that people of
every nation, race, and language are invited and accepted into its fellowship. I desire to be a

 I believe the Bible is God’s Word and source of Truth (John17:17; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter

 I believe that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are co-eternal members of the
Godhead (Matthew 28:19-20; Colossians 2:9; John 8:58) - Godhead

 I believe Salvation is only by grace through faith in Christ and accept Him as my Lord and
Saviour (Acts 4:12; Ephesians 2:8; John 3:16) - Salvation

 I believe Jesus’ return will be a literal, visible, audible, glorious event and the signs indicate
His coming is near (John 14:1-3; Matthew 24; Revelation 1:7; 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17) – Second Coming

 I believe prayer and Bible study, as well as sharing my faith with others, is an essential part
of Christian living (John 6:63; Mark 1:35; Matthew 26:39-42; Revelation 12:11) – Practical Christianity

 I believe Jesus calls Christians saved by grace, to live obedient, godly lives and God’s Law
provides a moral standard for living (John 14:15; Romans 3:31; Revelation 14:12) – Law and Grace

 I believe the Sabbath is an eternal sign of Jesus’ love and care, and His memorial of
Creation. (Luke 4:16; Revelation 14:6-7; Genesis 2:1-3; Exodus 20:8-11) I purpose to keep the

 I believe Jesus’ teaching on death as a sleep, until resurrection morning when Jesus

4:16,17) – State of the Dead

 I believe my body is the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit, and desire to keep my body in the
best health possible. I choose to follow Jesus’ example by refraining from alcohol, tobacco,
harmful drugs and foods the Bible terms unclean (Luke 9:23; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:19;
10:31; Leviticus 11) – Healthful Living, Christian Standards

 I believe everything I own belongs to God, and accept the tithing principle Jesus confirmed
in His teaching (Matthew 6:33; Malachi 3:8-10; Matthew 23:23; Deuteronomy 8:18) - Tithing

 I believe Jesus has a last-day church and has called me to be part of His Sabbath-keeping
Adventist movement of “every nation, kindred, tongue and people.” (Matthew 16:16-18;

 I believe the Bible’s teaching on the Gift of Prophecy, and believe God’s last day church will
be guided by the prophetic gift (Ephesians 4:8,11; 1 Corinthians 1:5-7; Revelation 12:17; 19:10) – Spirit

 I believe Jesus will recreate a new heavens and a new earth after the 1,000 year
millennium, as the home of the redeemed and the wicked will be totally consumed, doing

9) – Millennium, Hell, Heaven

 I believe the Seventh Day Adventist Church is the true church that keeps His
Commandments and live by the faith of Jesus. I accept to be part of the church that follows
God’s truth (Eph5: 25-27; Revelation 12: 1-17; Revelation 14: 12) – Remnant Church

 Understanding and accepting the Bible truths taught by Seventh-day Adventists, I desire to
be part of the local congregation through Baptism.
