AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE FUEL TENDER AND THE FUEL NOZZLE ARE
ELECTRICALLY BONDED TO THE AIRCRAFT BEFORE YOU REFUEL/DEFUEL
THE AIRCRAFT. A STATIC ELECTRIC SPARK DURING THE
REFUELING/DEFUELING CAN CAUSE AN EXPLOSION OR FIRE.

E. Electrically bond the fuel tender and the fuel nozzle to the aircraft before the refuel/defuel of the
aircraft (TASK 10−11−00−869−801).

F. Connect ac power to the aircraft (TASK 24−00−00−861−801).

NOTE: The aircraft battery power may be used, but the external ground power is
recommended.

G. Obey all refuel/defuel safety precautions (TASK 12−11−28−910−801).

H. Open the access doors that follow:

4. Procedure

Refer to Figure 305

WARNING: MAKE SURE THERE IS NO MORE THAN 2500 POUNDS (1134 KG) OF
IMBALANCE BETWEEN THE MAIN TANKS WHEN YOU DO THE
REFUEL/DEFUEL PROCEDURE. THE AIRCRAFT CAN MOVE AND CAUSE
INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

CAUTION: DO NOT USE MORE THAN −8 PSI (−55 KPA) DURING THE SUCTION DEFUEL
OPERATION. THE FUEL HOSE WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FUEL MANIFOLD.

A. To do the suction defueling do the steps that follow:

(1) Remove the cap from the refuel/defuel single−point adapter (1).

(2) Connect the nozzle from the fuel tender to the adapter. Place a fuel container to collect the
fuel.

(3) Make sure the switches on the refuel/defuel control panel on the outside of the fuselage are
set as follows:

– The three refuel SOV toggle−switches (2) are set to OFF.

– The auto start switch (3) is set to OFF.

(4) Do the operational test of the refuel/defuel system (TASK 28−25−00−710−801).

(5) Pressurize refueling hose to −8 psi (−55 kPa) maximum.

(6) Lift the guard off the POWER toggle switch (4).

(7) Set the POWER toggle switch (4) to on. Make sure of the conditions that follow:

– The power ON indicator light (5) comes on.

– The FAULT ANNUNC. indicator light (6) does not come on.

(8) Set the mode selector switch (7) to DEFUEL.

NOTE: Suction defuel the center tank first.

(9) Set the applicable refuel SOV toggle−switch (2) to ON.

(10) Make sure that the applicable SOV OP indicator lights (8) come on and the applicable SOV
CL indicator lights (9) stay off.

B. Stop the suction defueling as follows:

(1) If the tanks are defueled to a specified quantity, do the step that follows:

(a) Monitor the applicable RIGHT, center, and LEFT FUEL QTY displays (10). Set the
refuel SOV toggle−switches (2) to OFF when the applicable tanks are defueled to the
necessary quantity.

(b) Set the mode selector switch (7) to OFF.

(c) Set the POWER toggle switch (4) to OFF.

(d) Make sure that the power ON indicator light (5) goes off.

(e) Close the guard over the POWER toggle switch (4).

(2) If the tanks are to be fully defueled, do the step that follows:

(a) Monitor the applicable RIGHT, center, and LEFT FUEL QTY displays (10). Set the
refuel SOV toggle−switches (2) to OFF when the applicable SOV CL indicator light (9)
comes on.

NOTE: Before the refuel SOV toggle−switch is set to OFF, permit a minimum of 10
seconds after the applicable SOV CL indicator lights come on. This will
prevent the suction defueling to stop before it is completed.

(b) Set the mode selector switch (7) to OFF.

(c) Set the POWER toggle switch (4) to OFF.

(d) Make sure that the power ON indicator light (5) goes off.
