In the present work a computer numerical controlled (CNC) laser cutting machine will construct.
This system designs to employs a 50 – 100 watt continuous wave carbon dioxide laser and an x-y table to
allow fully automated cutting routines.
CNC laser cutting machines are used vastly to process various materials in industries due to their
results which are favored over those obtained from conventional cutting machines. High speed, limited heat
affected zone and localized processing are some advantage in favor of laser system.
The x and y axes of the table will made to move using two stepper motors controlled by personal
computer and a parallel interface through which a control on cutting shape speed , focusing plane, gas valve
and turning the laser machine on and off can be controlled. The movement of the x-y axes for the laser in
full automatic control with computer by design the hardware interface, required computer card and PCB
driver for the stepper motor and any sensing required and software will be write in visual basic
programmed for easer use and friendly instruction give the efficiency and the most required instruction to
improve it works for more accuracy and less time required.
This system can do some of practical applications whish include mask manufacturing, wire striping and
manufacturing of die boards for stamping out cartons.
This system consists basically of the following components:
1) Discharge channel and optical resonator
2) Cooling system
3) Vacuum and gas recirculation system
4) Gas flow and ducting connecting the mechanical components
5) High voltage electrical-power supply
6) Measurement unit
7) gas supply unit
8) Cutting head
9) x-y table
10) Computer and software
