CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
In this society, crime is rampant. This is a world where no one is truly safe,
specifically, in their homes. This is a world where people don’t know the
intentions of other people. This is a world where crimes are present almost
everywhere.
Here in Saudi Arabia, the crime rate can be considered as a low percentage
compared to the other countries. Despite the low percentage of crime rate in
Saudi Arabia, there is still a possibility that these crimes, especially theft, could
happen anytime. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, just
last 2013, there was a 102% increase in the crimes in Saudi Arabia from 2012.
Due to today’s advance technology, the difficulty of catching these criminals has
been eased. These days, there are devices such as, CCTV, which captures
motion pictures of a specific angle of view. There are also fingerprint scanners,
eye scanners, face scan, and security passcode devices to ensure that the
house cannot be entered by just any stranger. And of course, there are the trip
wires.
What is a trip wire? A trip wire is a triggering mechanism use to activate a booby
trap. Sometimes trip wires may be a wire that is attached to one or more mine so
they can activate the planted mines once one mine is activated.
The Laser Trip Wire is the improved method of trip wire lasers are used that are
connected to a photo resistor. The Laser Trip Wires have many advantages such
as no wires use, hard to be detected, and requiring little maintenance.
The researchers decided to make the Anti Theft Laser Trip Wire to avoid crimes
such as robbery, assault, kidnapping, etc. The Anti Theft Laser Trip Wire will be
used to detect these criminals while people are unaware while the crime happens.
If the device detects someone passing through the laser trip wire, the buzzer will
4
trigger and start ringing until the owner of Anti Theft Laser Trip Wire will restart the
device.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
In a recent survey by Gallup Analytic that looked at theft around the globe,
the theft rate in the United States came in at around 17 percent, meaning these
respondents were the victims of some sort of robbery—being a mugging (bag-
snatching), car theft or theft with threat. According to the Disaster Center’s U.S.
crime rates, the amount of thefts in 2013 registered 1,899.4 thefts per 100,000
people.
People tend to lie, cheat, kill and steal, they do all sorts of things, there are
many reasons why people resort to crimes, but the numbers are escalating rapidly,
there needs to be check on what is happening around the world and if you did not
already know then well, this world is not as safe as it seems to be. Among the
crimes that people commit one of the most popular crimes are robberies, where
people mask themselves and loot the banks or anywhere like corner people in the
streets, hold them at gunpoint so that they can get a hold of cash and fast. It is not
new to see people in need of money but the way they try to take it from others
leaves not only themselves in dangers and conviction for a long time but puts
innocent lives at stake. This is specifically important for tourists as there are a lot
of beautiful places to visit around the world, but tourist’s need to keep in mind the
negative aspects of the country that they are visiting as well.
The researchers decided to conduct this study in order to, first, keep the
owner of the device and his/her properties safe from danger. The researchers also
considered to lessen the chance of more crimes, especially theft, from happening.

OBJECTIVES
This project aims to create a device from low cost materials to provide a
cost effective means of creating an Anti theft laser trip wire.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Using the objective above, this project aims to create an effective Anti Theft Laser
Trip Wire.
1. Is it possible to create an Anti Theft Laser Trip Wire using minimal amount
of resources and from low cost materials?
2. Will it be able to detect people that are passing through the Anti Theft Laser
Trip Wire?
3. Is the created device cost efficient?
HYPOTHESIS
It is possible to create an efficient and effective anti-theft laser trip wire using
minimal and cost-efficient resources.
E. Significance of the Study
This study is indispensable to the following people:
Community. This investigatory project will benefit the community to lessen
the robbery cases.
Learners. This study will serve as a stimulant of their awareness of being
robbed.
Future Researchers. This can be used as a source or guide for the future
researchers to have another research related to this study.

C. Procedure
1st Box
1. Place the 3 pins of the thyristor in the column J of the bread board.
2. Connect the photoresistor to the same column of the base and the emitter of the
thyristor.
5
3. Then place one end of the resistor to the base of the thyristor then count 3
spaces to the left then place the other end of the resistor.
4. Then place the negative end of the L.E.D along the column of the Collector of
thyristor and place the positive end along the column of other end of the resistor.
6
5. Then place the positive end of the buzzer along the column of the positive end
of L.E.D and place the negative end of the buzzer along the column of the negative end
of L.E.D.
6. Then place some jumpers. One in the resistor and the other one in the emitter
of the thyristor.
7
7. Now, place the positive wire of the battery holder at the (-) row of the right side.
And negative wire of the battery holder at (-) row of the left side.
8. Point the laser to the photo resistor and turn on the switch. If anything interrupts
the laser from pointing towards the photo resistor, the buzzer will ring, alarming anyone
present in the area.
8
D. Results
The device works 2.8 meters apart from the laser. This will work as long as the
laser is steady and pointed towards the photoresistor. When the laser is blocked, the
buzzer starts ringing.
9
CHAPTER III
DATA AND ANALYSIS
Based on the finding of the results, the anti-theft laser trip wire is able to detect anything
passing through the laser. The device works with 3 volts of battery. After testing the
device 15 meters apart from the laser, the device worked 2.9 meters apart from the
laser, which is more than what is needed. The hypothesis of this study, “It is possible to
create an efficient and effective anti-theft laser trip wire using minimal and cost-efficient
resources. It is also possible for the anti-theft laser trip wire to work once the laser is
broken.” was sustained.
10
CHAPTER IV
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDDATIONS
Based on the gathered findings, the researchers came up with the following
conclusions:
1. It is indeed possible to create an efficient and effective anti-theft laser trip
wire using minimal and cost-efficient resources.
2. The device works 2.8 meters apart from the laser.
3. The device will work as long as the laser is steady.
4. The buzzer starts ringing when the laser is blocked.
Recommendations:
1. Use this device placing it in a location where it cannot be seen.
2. Make sure there are no obstacles between the laser tripwire as it will falsely
trigger the buzzer.
3. Make sure the buzzer installed in the laser tripwire is loud enough for you to
hear from your place/room of stay.
4. Use a less visible laser so it will not be easily noticed by the criminal.
5. Replace battery as soon as malfunctions have been observed from the device.
6. Place the laser in a steady position.
7. If there is proper space, try placing it in a diagonal position, not going over 2.8
meters. This will prolong the ringing of the buzzer.
