Plants

My first encounter with the different plants in the area was this. I would describe it as something that is
very small in size and could easily be mistakes for dandelion seeds due to the reason that its head has hair
like florets. This plant didn’t have much competition in the area because around its area were more of its
kind. No other plants of different species could be identified surrounding it. No symbiotic relationships
were observed during the time of my encounter, it was simply just a plant being a plant in an area with no
other outside observable organisms disturbing it. The plant didn’t seem to portray any kind of unique
reactions to stimulus when I tried touching or blowing it. Although I can say that this is unique because
you don’t see plants like this everyday.

I was a happy little child when I encountered this, I was actually very ecstatic thinking to myself “Wow! I
just found pineapple-like fruits in caramoan!” When in fact it actually was. The plant greatly resembled a
regular pineapple that you see everyday except that it is decorativley colored as red. The leaves of the
plant could be described as very long, it had sharp spines at the base of the leaves that curve downward
toward the base of the plant and is relatively smaller than our regular everyday pineapplee they are related
to each other. The skin is tough and waxy, brownish pink in color. No symbiotic relationships were
present, I believe that it is because of the plant’s nature that it is hard and spiky. The plant’s only
competition in the area were other plants that were close to it, sharing the same nutrients and sunlight

The plant that will certainly catch your attention even from afar. Very beautiful to look at yet the plant
seems to be tiny. The blossom of the plant has a soft yet vibrant color of light purple that is funnel-
shaped. It had a soft texture and was very gentle to the touch. Upon approaching the plant it had a very
sweet fragrance, its petals curled from the sides and had semi-heart shaped leaves. Its sweet fragrance
may have seem to attract ants and a number of insects which surrounded its leaves and the blossom itself
yet it remained still and vulnerable from outside danger.

This plant caught my attention due to its unusual and unique structure. The plant stood straight and high,
with its stem hard and stiff, its leaves grew updwards towards the direction of the sun. The entirety of the
plant didn’t really have anything to do with “beauty” that wold really catch your attention because it was
mostly just green. Although the plant did stood strong compared to the other plants surrounding it.
Symbiotic relationships found were snails on the stem of the plant, I couldn’t really tell if the snails were
feeding off the plant or were just there not really harming each other. If you will notice on the background
of the picture you would see more of these, that is because competition around its area was very little.

This plant kind of similar to the previous plant and it didn’t go that far from the area. This plant also had
very stiff leaves but its leaves were rather small and scattered everywhere in different directions unlike
the previous one which grew upwards. The stem was small and thick and filled with mostly leaves. I
believe that the plant grew blossoms due to the small on that I spotted attached to it, the plant was filled
with this very small blossoms. No competition was in the area, if you wil notice at the background of the
picture more of this plant scattered around the area. Even symbiotic relationships were not present. This
plant was very hard to the touch in general.

I’m honestly not sure if algae are considered plants, I am aware that these are called algae so I did a little
research and it states that these are plant-like organisms due to the reason that they are photosynthetic
creatures. Photosynthesizing is an ability of a plant. Now, this type of algae that I spotted appears to be
green in color, squishy, slimy, and very slippery. I didn’t know what the reason was but it spread in great
numbers across a number of rocks along the area. Maybe because most of the rocks were exposed to the
waves of the shore. Snails could be found in their area, I saw a number of snails feeding off of these algae
though no competition was present.

This plant looked like a bomb that exploded and turned into leaves. Its leaves felt soft, thin, waxy and
very fragile. These are the leaves and blossoms that I found from the mangroves. Its roots are very long
and extended down to the water and poke out of the ground on another end. Other types of mangroves
could be found surrounding its area being competition to different minerals and sunlight. Many kinds of
insects flew around the area, I am not sure whether these insects affected the plants in anyways though
they were present.

I saw these when we were at the beach, swimming. It looked like some kind of seagrass, it felt weird and
similar to how algae felt like, slippery and slimy, although it felt hard and rough instead of being squishy
and soft like algae. I only saw a few pieces; apart from that, nothing else that is similar to its kind were
spotted anywhere there I conclude that it had no competition of any kind. A number of organisms
surrounded it, different kinds of fish circled it but it did not cause any harm to one another.
Animals

I never thought that we would be able to spot a jellyfish in the area but a small baby one; brownish in
color suddenly emerged out of nowhere. I did not dare to go any nearer because I am aware and I have
heard of how dangerous its sting could be. The animal moved very slowly but continuously moved in a
swimming motion, continuously moving its tentacles. I honestly was too scared to observe any further so
I was unable to see if there was competition or any symbiotic relationships in its area.

This ant caught my attention because it was not like any other ant. It looked like it was 3 times the size of
a regular ant, it moved very fast (seems to have been looking for food) when I tried to grab it for
observation. When I caught the ant, it felt very hard to the touch and somewhat crispy (when I imagined
of actually squishing it). After a few seconds of observing it bit my finger and it really was not like any
ordinary ant, its sting was very different, my finger felt like it was pulsating for a few seconds and left a
red bit mark on my finger. I believe that the ant has a symbiotic relationship with plants, because that is
where I spotted this insect. Other kinds of insects were around its area looking for food as well.
I was amazed upon seeing this aquatic-like insect because it was my first time ever seeing anything like it.
I could not even classify as to what insect I would associate it with, it looked like an aquatic grasshopper
because of its size, very small with long antennas. It was hard and felt scaly when I touched it it just
moved from one place to another

I found this small clam along the shore. The clam didn’t seem to open meaning it was still alive. It had 2
shells that felt very hard and rigid. It was very small and unresponsive to any stimulus. You could easily
mistake it for something that is dead. It stayed very still from where I found it, has no ability of any
movement rendering it very vulnerable to outside danger although whatever is inside it is well protected
because of its psyiological attributes.
This small black fish gave me a hard time; it was very quick and seemed very sensitive. Its response to
stimulus was fast as well, it is as if it knows for itself of how fragile and vulnerable it is to its
surroundings. I did not get to feel it personally because of how quick it was, as for its competition, I saw
other fishes roaming the area together with this small one.

This small insect jumped all over me, from one place to another when being touched. It had antennas,
hard and spiky legs, and wings. Has large eyes with a combination of brown, grey or green. It was hard to
distinguish its color because I was these at night when I noticed it on me. The insect looks like it had a
brownish green color. Everything was much unexpected so I did not get to observe I that well; this all
happened when we were eating dinner at around 8 to 9PM, that maybe it was in the area expecting to grab
some of our barbecue.

I saw these snails together with the algae. I took a very close up picture of thes four bcaus they were very
small although there were a great number of snails in the area. Most of them were submerged under
water, others were above water. I believe that they were feeding off of the present algae in their area.
Upon picking it up it had a very hard shell above it to protect itself because underneath is a small fragile,
slimy creature which curled up and hid inside its shell. The only competition it had in the area was
amongst each other, there were so many snails in the area which could be considered as equal to the
number of algae.

This dog was somehow mad at us and kept barking. I tried approaching it slowly but it kept running away
from me as if it was afraid of people in the beach. It had four legs and fur to protect it from different
outside elements. It moved very fast as a reaction when tried to be touched. As for its competition in the
area, 5 other dogs were chasing him around and seemed to be very aggressive, all of them barking
together. Something so cute could be very dangerous at the same time. We ended up waiting for all of the
dogs to calm down and leave.

This chicken looked very different from our regular everyday chicken. It looked bigger in size, maybe
twice the size of a regular chicken. It was owned by the locals at the island. It acted very aggresively
when we approached it. It had a thick layer of brown feathers, huge wings, and had an excess flesh on its
face that is color red. It had large strong-looking legs with only three toes. It didn’t really have any
competition since it was owned by the locals and it got fed daily (although I feel like they might just eat it
someday)
We spotted this small crab as a group, together with my classmates. It was very small and looked
aggressive but at the same time afraid since we were somehow zoning it to one side. It kept hiding then
coming back out to check on us. It looked like any typical crab, hard-looking, covered in a shell and had
claws. It seemed to be secluded from other organisms and only went out from time to time to look for
food so we could not really tell what competition it had or if symbiotic relationships were present

Just when we all thought that everything was finished we spotted this wild monkey just near the port from
where we were waiting for a tricycle. It was very energetic, wild and aggressive. Good thing that it was
tied to a tree because it tried attacking us numerous times by jumping at us; it had very sharp claws and
sharp teeth. It gave each of us an eerie stare but we just kept taking pictures. It had multicolored furs
having white on its stomach and grey from its back to its head, arms and legs. It also had a very long and
strong tail that it used to climb and play around the tree. Insects were flying and jumping on it, it could
have been fleas.
II. Physical Environment

1. Water

Different parts of Caramoan had different water types some were very clear and clean while in
some areas it would be very vague even if you wear goggles. The only observable water pollution
in the place are emitted by the boats and trash found at the shore. The shores filled with different
kinds of trash and rubbish of many kinds. Even used fishnets can be found just lying around
everywhere. Present species in the area composed of different kinds of fish, crabs, jellyfish and
others that could not be easily seen

2. Air

Honestly, the air might look and feel good at first but upon closer observation its temperature has
abnormally increased and could hurt the skin. The air also had an unusual odor and could not be
considered fresh anymore because of the number of people.

3. Land

The land quality is rich and healthy, visible from the thick vegetation as well as diverse insect
species although On the aspect of waste disposal, locals still have poorly disciplined practices of
managing their waste, trash of all sorts can be seen anywhere you look. These may come in small
to great numbers of many different kinds. Cigarette butts, food wrappers, plastic beverage bottles,
plastic bottle caps, plastic grocery bags, other plastic bags, straws and stirrers, plastic takeout
containers, and plastic lids. You will notice that most of the items are made out of plastic

4. Exploitation

The tourists enjoy the natural beauty caramoan has to offer by means of admiring the view, taking
countless photographs, inhaling the summer air, & absorbing the natural aura of caramoan.
Despite the happiness of these tourists, many complain about the scattered rubbish around the
place and the great numbers of tourists visiting the area. Aside from enjoying the view these
tourists got to jump around the cold, clean and salty waters of the beach enjoying the many forms
of life that the place has to offer

III. Application

1. First issue – The amount of trash all over the premise. No proper set of rules are set in the place
that could be properly implemented to enforce strict penalties for tourists that would merely
throw their trash around the place

Second - Over population in the area. The very reason as to why the place is slowly becoming
spoiled and polluted is the number of people visiting the area, people who are not well educated
with the effects of their actions. These people should be educated of our different present laws
that govern such actions

2. Legal Management is a pre-law course. In this course, we are taught the different basics of
anything related to the Philippine Law. The positive effects of this to our environment is that
many different laws that help protect our environment are passed and are in fact very useful and
helpful. The negative effects is that these different laws are present but people are unaware. The
only ones that benefit from different laws that are passed are the ones that are already powerful
but still thirst for money and power.

3.

4. The connection between my course and the environment is very significant. In a power-and-
money-driven world like today, the poor and the weak are bullied and oppressed. We soon to be
lawyers can properly educated about these different environmental issues that we are facing and
properly apply the appropriate laws to help and be the voice for these unheard cries for help. Like
many instances such as illegal mining, logging, dumping of wastes in inappropriate areas. These
can be pushed back by properly applying our given set of rules and guidelines (Laws)
