Cleanroom Design Calculator

This document provides a cleanroom design calculator that estimates the necessary air changes per hour, lighting fixtures, HEPA filters, and low air returns for a classified ISO 8 cleanroom room measuring 100 feet by 100 feet by 10 feet high, accounting for significant particle generation from the process. The results of running the calculator for this room estimate 30 air changes per hour, 205 lighting fixtures, 84 HEPA filters, and 100 low air returns will be needed, for a total airflow of 50,000 CFM.

Cleanroom Design Calculator

For the calculation, we assume 10 to 30 air changes per hour (ACH) for an ISO 8; 30 to 65 ACH for an
ISO 7; 80 to 150 ACH for an ISO 6; 200 to 450 ACH for an ISO 5. If there is a signi cant generation of
particles in the process, we use the higher number in the range.

Disclaimer: This is a rule of thumb only. A lot of aspects are not taken into consideration for the
calculation, including but not limited to, heat gain, number of people, the use of a fume hood, etc.
Calculations should be computed by a cleanroom HVAC specialist.
