Chapter 3 Methodology

This chapter outlines the research methodology that will be used in the study. It describes the location of the study, research design, population sampling, research instruments, data gathering procedures, and statistical analysis. The study will use a multi-stage sampling technique to collect both qualitative and quantitative data from credit card users in selected barangays in Batac, Ilocos Norte through interviews using a developed survey instrument. The collected data will then be statistically analyzed using descriptive statistics.

CHAPTER III

RESEARCH AND METHODOLOGY

This chapter describes the operational plan of work or strategy. A number of activities in

the plan of work include the following operations: a) locale of the study, b) research design; c)

population sampling, d) research instruments; e) data gathering procedures, f) statistical

treatment of data.

Locale of the Study

In the official website of Ilocos Norte it is stated that Batac is bounded on the north by

San Nicolas and Sarrat, on the east by the Laoag River and the Cordillera; on the south by Badoc

and on the west by Paoay. There are several small lakes within the territory and the soil is very

fertile, The town has a land area of 161,06 square kilometer. According to the 2015 census, it has

a total population of 55, 201 people and it consists of 43 barangays where the city consist of 16

rural and 27 urban barangays.

Research Design

Sampling design is imperative in every scientific study. Hence, the researcher decided to

collect the data through multi stage sampling. Both qualitative and quantitative data will be

elicited from the respondents. The major characteristics of credit card users have been identified

by using descriptive research and the major factors affecting demand for credit cards and their

usage patter have been identified by using causal research.

Population Sampling

This study will use the probability sampling method specifically the multi-stage sampling

technique. A total of ______ of the total population will be the respondents of the study.

The ____ barangays will be chosen by the researchers using Stratified random sampling,

(JOM KITAM MAN NU USTU METLA A STRATIFIED) wherein these places consist of

credit card users.

Research Instrument

An interview schedule will be developed and used in gathering the data needed to answer

the problems forwarded in the study. The data to be gathered will include: (1) number of credit

cards owned; (2) frequency of using credit card as a mode of payment; and (3) kinds of good and

services bought by credit card.

Data Gathering

The interview schedule will be prepared to facilitate the interview process. The

questionnaire will be written in the English language only. The data will be gathered by the

researcher personally.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The data that will be gathered will be summarized, tabulated, and analyzed based on the

problems of the study. In the analysis and interpretation of the data, descriptive statistics such as

frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation, and percentage will be used.
