THE PLACE WHERE I LIVE
I live in Esperanza, a village in the middle of Santa Fe in Argentina. It’s small, but it has
grown very much lately. It has a population of over 50,000 people. It’s near the capital city and
the Salado river, and it’s surrounded by green fields.
Esperanza is quieter than other bigger cities as Santa Fe or Rosario, but it can be crowded
when everybody goes to work. Esperanza has a university for agriculture and veterinary, that’s
why there are a lot of students living here. Also it has a lot of industries which provide work for
the residents. There are many historic buildings, for example the town hall, the library, the
hospital, and Stoessel Palace. The Liceo Municipal José Pedroni was an antique residence
which is now an institution where people teaches art and languages. This is where I study
English. There is a beautiful park, ‘el Parque de la Agricultura’ where we can go to spend time
among trees or do exercise.
The weather in Esperanza is temperate. It’s located in a rainy area. Summers are really hot
and damp and winters can be quite cold but it never snows here. The landscape around here
is plain and green. We can go for a walk or biking over the fields.
Esperanza is an historic village, it is known for being the first organized agricultural colony
in Argentina. Its foundation was in 1856, so it’s 163 years. It’s not a very famous village but
it’s a nice place to visit and to live. Every year we celebrate the ‘Fiesta Nacional de la
Agricultura’ and famous artists come to sing in the main square.
For me, the best thing of Esperanza is its streets, and the fact that anywhere I want to go is
quite close to my house. I can feel safe here, despite that insecurity is everywhere in Argentina,
there’s something in here that makes me feel that I will be alright. I like this place, Esperanza
means ‘hope’ in english, I think that’s a beautiful name.
