Research Operational Template (Rot) TM

This research operational template outlines a study to optimize waste management routes in Arau, Perlis using GIS. The objectives are to optimize waste collection routes considering road networks, demographics and waste production, create a GIS database of routes, and compare current and optimized routes for cost and time. Key research questions examine how route optimization could impact waste management, the best way to inform citizens, and the relationship between cost and time with route optimization.

RESEARCH OPERATIONAL TEMPLATE (ROT)TM

NAME: MOHAMAD NUR SYAFIQ BIN MOHAMAD FAISA DATE:18th October 2019
Title
ROUTE OPTIMIZATION OF WASTE MANAGEMENT USING GIS
Problem Statement
i. The waste stream of rejects from a processing facility to conversion or disposal facility
is ignored, because it has no significant effect (Apaydin and Gonullu, 2007).
ii. None of the above literatures took into account the road network detail in finding solution
to waste collection problem (Ogwueleka, 2009).
iii. The collection and transportation of solid waste in urban areas is a very difficult and
complicated problem (Siddam, Khadikar, and Chitade, 2012).
Aim
To describes the optimization of vehicle routes and schedules for collecting municipal solid
waste in Arau, Perlis.
Objectives
i. To optimize for the route of collection in Arau, Perlis by taking consideration of data
about road net, demographics and solid waste production.
ii. To use data gathered and form a GIS database on the route map of Arau, Perlis.
iii. To compare present route with optimized route for cost and time.
Research Questions
i. How optimization for route of collection can impact waste management in Arau, Perlis?
ii. What the best method to use in order to deliver information to local citizen?
iii. What is the relationship between of cost and time due to present route optimization?
