Pile Capacity (Pile Cap - BS 8110) PDF

This document provides guidance on determining pile capacity from BS 8110 for pile cap design. It states that the pile capacity is sufficient if the pile short-term working load compression capacity is greater than or equal to the characteristic applied load, and if the pile short-term working load tension capacity is greater than or equal to a negative characteristic applied load. It also lists related topics for pile cap design standards including bending design, shear design, punching shear design, and checks for limiting parameters.

Pile Capacity (Pile Cap: BS 8110)

Pile capacity passes if:
Rc ≥  Fchar,pn ≥ - Rt

Where:

Rc = Pile SWL compression capacity

Rt = Pile SWL tension capacity

Fchar,pn = Pile load
