NightCry CE Artbook

This document provides design details for a creature called the ScissorWalker in three sections. The first section describes the basic physical appearance of straw bundles bound with wire that form the eyes and rough textured skin. The second section notes design elements like a black object wrapped around the neck, corroded fabric, and identical upgrades to maintain the same appearance. The third section gives specifics for the head area, including a gas mask-like face, remnants of a nun's headpiece, and moths nesting within.

The “eyes” are mere apertures—
as illustrated below, like they were dug
out with a chisel.
Not too pretty, very roughly done.

Cross-section

Clusters of straw or
small branches
are bound and held in
place with a thick wire.

Pink lines are

large ridges.

This is the appearance when straw is removed.

brighter in color.

What binds the straw is a wire like this.

Ordinarily, this section moves
up and down to signify
breathing with the shoulders.

The fabric is corroded and

in tatters.
The black object wrapped around
the neck seems as though it grows
out of the throat.

The physical appearance is exactly the

same in the upgrade. (They have to be
identical, so that they’re not mistaken
as a completely “different person.”) The

HEAD AREA
Picture the original face covered with a thin gas mask. For the right eye, the whites of the eyeball is gone; just a hard, black sphere.
The highlight is strong even in darkness. Below the eye, what would be the nose and chin on the original face has been crushed,
and the skin hangs loose. The “aperture” at the very bottom of the face (exhales gray in darkness and black in the mist) is for
breathing, and alerts the player to his location. For this reason, he ordinarily moves his shoulders as though he is breathing hard.
On the left eye side, there are signs of collapse and rotting, as if
portending what happens in the upgrade. There is nothing that resembles
an eyeball. Furthermore, it looks a size larger than the right eye.

This is the color

for reference.

Remnants of the fabric

Remnants of the fabric

The few barbed wires is to evoke the

sense of a former nun’s cap - it was
originally a bright gray color (which
oxidized and turned white)
A nun’s headpiece was used as a basis for
the head design.
There is barbed wire on the inside,
shaped like the framework, but most
of the fabric has worn away, and only
remnants remain.
Inside the barbed wire framework,
“moths” have made nests, and on the
left side near the head, there is a black
mass (the set-up is that the moths are
eating the ScissorWalker’s skin and
encroaching on the area).
Below the neck, the limbs are covered in
nun’s clothing (the premise is the formal
dress of a high-ranking member of a
church/organization) which has faded, is
tattered and filthy with dirt and grime.
The “moths” on the head area constantly
flit around, but these characters conceal
themselves completely in mist or
darkness, in order to force the player to
guess the position.
When there is mist, the black silhouette
reflects. When there is darkness, the
wings reflect light.

HEAD AREA
The face area is dried up, with thin layer of skin barely hanging on the bones. Moths pack themselves into the mouth, filling up the
cheeks, and are buried deep into the right eye (flesh is eaten away). Moths have devoured more of the left side of the face than the
right; hardly any skin is discernable around the eye, cheek, and ear area.
