Section 2: Literature review
Introduction
Globalization has brought the competitive business environment actually. Lots of global
companies are working in different markets of different countries. So, the global business
environment is competitive. It is urgent to be effective to gain the competitive advantage for global
companies with overcoming the drawbacks of global business environment and to have the
benefits from the global markets(Agliati, 2012). Here, the researcher has critically evaluated some
literatures to understand the benefits and drawback of a global business environment. The
researcher has also evaluated literatures to understand to which context global business
environment influences global companies here.
Job creation: Lots of global companies enter into the international market with their
products and services due to globalization. Global business environment brings the scopes
for the multinational companies to do business in the global markets. Host countries then
get huge development as there are lots of job scopes created in the host area by
multinational companies. Global companies offer employment scopes to the host country’s
people (McIntosh and Pontius, 2016). Social standard of the people of the country is
ensured then. It is found that global companies create more job scopes for the host
countries’ people comparing to that of the local companies indeed.
Deeper division of labor and economics of scale: Agliati (2012) critically states that
global companies require huge number of labor and economies of scale. An effective global
business environment is effective in this case to supply enough number of labor and
economies of scale for the global companies indeed(Cadwell, 2015).Global companies are
taking the scope of this from the global business environment nowadays. Producers and
consumers both get the benefits from a global business environment. Producers get huge
number of labor from an emerging market also, according to the research of Cadwell
(2015). Global companies can have also proper economies of scale. Enough labor and
economies of scale ensure the success of the global companies in the global arena
ultimately.
Monopoly reduction: Before globalization, local companies have the scope of doing
monopoly business. Globalization has kicked out the monopoly from different markets of
the world in fact (Guy, 2012). Local companies have to compete with a lot of global
companies nowadays and here, global companies provide quality products and services to
the customers in global areas, according to Guy (2012). A global business environment is
effective in making the emerging market competitive. Businesses come with new
innovations in the markets then. Global companies invest huge amount of money into the
investigation and innovation regularly to take the control of the market and so the rivalry
is huge in global context (Hayton, 2016).
Higher per capita income: Globalization has benefitted the emerging markets with lots of
facilities. Hayton (2016) critically states that the growth of per capita income of the local
people of an emerging market is also the benefit of an effective global business
environment indeed. Many poorest countries can achieve faster economic growth due to
proper global business environment actually(Ifeanyi, 2015). It reduces extreme
poverty.Globalization has created lots of employment scopes for the local people. The
economic and financial condition of the local people becomes great than that of previous
time due to globalization, according to Ifeanyi (2015). So, this is helpful in maximizing the
per capita income of the local people.
Free movement of labor between countries: Globalization has brought the world closer
and this world has become nowadays a global village actually. So, people go different areas
of the world for working (Kalmi and Klinedinst, 2017).Global companies appoint lots of
people who come from other countries. An effective global business environment brings
the freedom for the labor to move in different countries for working purpose. This is helpful
for global companies also. Kalmi and Klinedinst (2017) critically states that people are
now economically and financially developed. Unemployment rate decreases greatly due to
the positive influence of globalization actually.
Sharing of ideas/skills/technologies: Global companies have huge skills, ideas and
technological knowledge in business environment. Local companies can get the support
from the global companies in terms of technology and experience(McIntosh and Pontius,
2016). This ensures the growth of capability of local companies also. Global companies
can have proper sharing of ideas/skills/technology among different global companies due
to effective global business environment. Positive business environment is the ultimate
result of this practice of global and local companies. McIntosh and Pontius (2016) critically
states that the host country becomes economically developed and other businesses can
come with new ideas and features in their products and services then. It is beneficiary for
the customers.
Pollution: Globalization has brought the scope for business organizations to enter into different
markets and to produce products and services. As global companies produce products and services
in a country, the environment becomes polluted if the organizations don’t become serious about
the wastages, chemicals and others. Air, water and others might be polluted from the wastages and
other harmful elements from the production (Powell and Ghauri, 2015). In this, global businesses
require ensuring the sustainability to the resources and materials.
Inequality: Globalization in some cases brings the inequality among people of different countries.
Different businesses come to work in different areas and so, local companies have to compete with
them (Parker, 2014). At a time, local companies have to be defeated. So, labor and employees of
local companies become unemployed. In this regard, poor people become poorest. On the other
hand, rich people take the scope of globalization most probably properly, according to Parker
(2014). So, the inequality between them maximizes. Global business environment is influential to
raise inequalities in income and wealth. Poorest people become deprived of basic technology and
public goods due to globalization. Global companies have the responsibility to keep sight on this
matter (Powell and Ghauri, 2015).
Inflation: Due to globalization, inflation raises highly in many countries. Globalization brings the
scope of huge employment for the local people. Local people become unwilling to produce
commodities then (Powell and Ghauri, 2015). People have huge amount of money in their hand
but the local production decreases highly. This creates huge problem for the local areas indeed.
Commodity prices are raised more due to globalization. Poorest people are being suffered from
the food price inflation nowadays; according to Prechel (2016).Price rising of the commodities is
the result of inflation due to globalization in many areas. So, global companies are keeping
negative effect in a market in this way.
Threats to the Global Commons: Globalization is responsible for offering some threats to global
commons also. Global companies need huge amount of land in the market where they want to
expand their business (Prechel, 2016). This causes huge land degradation in the host market. This
is harmful for the host country. Land production decreases in a great number then. Deforestation
is also the negative effect of globalization in different places nowadays (Ranis, Vreeland and
Kosack, 2014). Global companies are hampering the ecosystems sometimes as they are responsible
for land degradation, deforestation and making permanent shortage of water in some cases
worldwide, according to the research of Ranis, Vreeland and Kosack conducted in 2014. Water
shortage in a country can be happened from the expansion of global companies.
Trade Imbalances: Globalization is responsible for bringing the trade imbalance between
countries. Some countries give supports to the global companies to enter into global markets. Some
countries might not be able to give surplus in this case (Vincent and Kumar, 2014). So, there
happens a trade imbalance between these countries. Global business environment is responsible
for trade imbalances sometimes. Big trade surpluses are being given by some countries. Some
countries also practice dumping to have the global market. So, global companies having supports
become effective in getting sustainable position in an area and on the other hand, local companies
might be ineffective, according to Vincent and Kumar (2014).
Dominant global brands: Global companies normally have strong brand value. So, they dominate
the market. Local companies on the other hand cannot dominate the market because of their poor
brand value (Zhanh, 2014). Global businesses have superior technologies and so, they dominant
the global market mostly. Local companies might have some difficulties in this case. Ineffective
supports of technologies make the local companies ineffective to maximize the brand value
gradually, according to Zhanh (2014). Local companies have to use modern technologies to get
the proper brand value in this regard. Global companies can give supports to local companies in
this case.
Global business environment offers both positive and negative influences for the global company
and the emerging market both. Global companies need to overcome the drawbacks//risks
(Coulson-Thomas, 2011). This will be beneficial for both the company and the market. Global
companies require huge number of labor. Coulson-Thomas (2011) critically states that an effective
global business environment is effective in this case to supply enough number of labors for the
global companies. Global companies are taking the scope of this from the global business
environment nowadays. Before globalization, local companies have the scope of doing monopoly
business (Cadwell, 2015).
Monopoly business cannot get the control of the global market due to globalization. The growth
of per capita income of the local people of an emerging market is also the benefit of an effective
global business environment indeed. Many poorest countries can achieve faster economic growth
due to proper global business environment actually. Globalization has brought the world closer
and this world has become nowadays a global village actually. Global companies appoint lots of
people who come from other countries. Local companies can get the support from the global
companies in terms of technology and experience (Kalmi and Klinedinst, 2017). This ensures the
growth of capability of local companies also. Globalization in some cases brings the inequality
among people of different countries. Different businesses come to work in different areas and so,
local companies have to compete with them. At a time, local companies have to be defeated. Due
to globalization, inflation raises highly in many countries.
Globalization is responsible for offering some threats to global commons also. Global companies
need huge amount of land in the market where they want to expand their business. Globalization
is responsible for bringing the trade imbalance between countries. Some countries give supports
to the global companies to enter into global markets (Jausàs, 2015). Globalization has given the
global companies to enter into international markets. Global companies normally have strong
brand value. So, they dominate the market. Proper global business environment offers some
benefits to global companies like L'Oréal. L'Oréal has to implement these scopes into strengths so
that competitive advantage can be gained effectively.
Research Method
The researcher had two options in conducting the research project. Primary and secondary
researches are two options in this regard. Primary research supports primary data. Secondary
research supports secondary data. Primary data are field data. Secondary data are previously used
data indeed. The researcher has two options in using the research approaches. Quantitative and
qualitative research approaches can be the two options of conducting the research project (Argyris
and Schön, 2013). Quantitative research supports the scientific and mathematical data. Qualitative
research supports descriptive data. The researcher can justify and probe the project effectively if
quantitative data is used. The research reliability and validity is depended on the using of
appropriate research method and approach in fact. The stakeholders of the research project can
then rely on the credibility and reliability of the project (Bacon, 2015). Feasibility of the project is
also depended on the using of appropriate research method and approach indeed. The researcher
has the scope of numerically present and statistically interpret the primary data collected when
using the quantitative research approach. This is basing on quantitative research approach. The
researcher can mathematically interpret and statistically presented data when using this approach.
It is the significant matter to use the valid data in the research project. Primary and secondary
researches are two options in this regard. Primary research supports primary data. Secondary
research supports secondary data. Primary data are field data. Secondary data are previously used
data indeed (Bower and Hilgard, 2016). The researcher has completed the research project based
on the primary or field data indeed. Proper data collection method ensures the best effective
outcome and results from the research project. This research has mainly focused on primary
sources of data. Primary data has been collected through field research here in this research project.
The researcher has used a questionnaire survey to collect data from the field work. This is because
the survey can collect the fresh data from the participants. This helps to make new decision
regarding the subject matter. The questionnaire survey has been conducted on the sampled people
(Bower and Hilgard, 2016). Proper conduction of the questionnaire survey ensures the valid
outcome of the research project.
Data analysis
Proper data analysis is required to make proper decision regarding the subject matter of this
research project. To analyze data, MS-Excel and graph charts have been used to make the proper
decision ultimately.
Sampling method
This research has conducted a questionnaire survey. So, effective sampling is significant for the
conduction of the questionnaire survey. A group of people was selected with sampling. Here, the
researcher has used the purposive approach of sampling to select a group of people. The group of
people will include the customers of L’Oreal (Brown and Duguid, 2019). The researcher has
sampled 20 employees of L’Oreal actually as sample to conduct the questionnaire survey. This is
effective to collect the primary data from the customers directly. This is the ideal sample for this
project. The customers who buy from L’Oreal will be surveyed with this sample. This sample
people represent the whole customers of L’Oreal actually.
Only the valid research is considerable to the stakeholders of the project. The researcher has the
responsibility to ensure the research validity. The budget of this research is $1000. The
stakeholders can be reliable on the valid research only (Bertonèche and Knight, 2017). Several
things are to be considered by the researcher to conduct a valid and reliable research indeed. This
project has the objective to make suggestions for the global company taken as case study. So, valid
suggestions are possible to make when the research project is valid and reliable eventually. The
researcher will follow all the guidelines set in the research methodology to ensure the research
validity and reliability actually. The researcher will ensure the effective management of time and
resources in this regard to support the reliability and validity of the research project (Bertonèche
and Knight, 2017). Proper budget allocation and implementation will be ensured by the researcher.
To test the validity and reliability of the research, logical and statistical tools are required to be
utilized in the project also.
Ethical Consideration:
The researcher has conducted the research project with ensuring proper ethical consideration.
Research quality is depended on the proper ethical consideration. The researcher has avoided any
wrong representation of data here in the project. Proper ethical consideration also ensures reliable
data here (Bledsoe, 2013). The researcher did not waste any time and resources during the
conduction of this project. Data confidentiality will be ensured here. The researcher has ensured
the confidentiality of respondents securing the personal information and data properly. Data
collected from respondents is password protected in this regard. Any disclosing of data to third
parties has also been avoided and so, respondents have become confident regarding their
information and data. The researcher will not pressurize anyone to give the data during the survey.
Required resources
Some hardware and software are used here as resources to conduct the project. Computers and
other input devices are used as hardware. MS-office and other statistical tools are used as software
here to conduct the project. So, the research has the sufficient supports wit necessary resources
(Bledsoe, 2013).
Action plan
Action plan is the time distribution and management system for conducting the research. The
researcher has taken 5 months as expected time to complete this project in fact. There is no
additional time needed here.

5.1 Conclusion
Global business environment offers both positive and negative influences for the global company
and the emerging market both. Global companies need to overcome the drawbacks//risks. This will
be beneficial for both the company and the market. Global companies require huge number of
labor and economies of scale. An effective global business environment is effective in this case to
supply enough number of labor and economies of scale for the global companies indeed. Global
companies are taking the scope of this from the global business environment nowadays. Before
globalization, local companies have the scope of doing monopoly business. Globalization has
kicked out the monopoly business from different markets of the world in fact. The growth of per
capita income of the local people of an emerging market is also the benefit of an effective global
business environment indeed. Many poorest countries can achieve faster economic growth due to
proper global business environment actually. Globalization has brought the world closer and this
world has become nowadays a global village actually. Global companies appoint lots of people
who come from other countries. Local companies can get the support from the global companies
in terms of technology and experience. This ensures the growth of capability of local companies
also.
Research findings have met with the literatures appropriately. First thing is that L’Oreal always
offers quality products to the customers and so, the company has the competitive advantage in
different markets indeed. Local companies become ineffective to offer quality products to the
customers in comparing to the global companies. According to the above graph, 70% of people
think that L’Oreal offers quality products to the customers. On the other hand, the rest think the
opposite of the quality products. So, this has brought the benefits to the organization. The findings
have identified that L’Oreal creates huge employment scopes for the local people. Secondly, 65%
of people of the survey think that L’Oreal has developed huge employment scopes for the local
people. The rest think that L’Oreal does not create any employment scopes. So, it supports the job
creation benefits identified in the literature also.
Thirdly, in time of expansion, global companies are occurring land degradation, deforestation and
environmental pollution indeed. 55% of people are saying yes to this matter and on the other hand,
45% of people are saying negative regarding this matter. It is also identified in the threat to the
global common point in the literature. 85% of people support the business of L’Oreal in global
business environment. On the other hand, the rest do not support the business of L’Oreal in global
business environemnt in fact. Literatures also found that global business environment has imapct
on th global company. This is alos found in the survey conducted here.
5.2 Recommendations
The researcher has made the following recommendations for L”Oreal:
L’Oreal should identify the benefits of global business environment and then should try for
the best outcome from the global business in different areas with ensuring competitive
advantage (Boyd, 2011).
L’Oreal should also identify the drawbacks of global business environment so that the
company can overcome these drawbacks properly. This is effective to identify the new
scopes for the company in global areas (Boyd, 2011).
L’Oreal should also give supports to the local companies when working in an emerging
market. This ensures the healthy business environment in the market (Buckley, 2017).
L’Oreal should give focus on the sustainability of the resources and assets of the locality
when working in the global areas. This ensures the growth and development of the locality
(Buckley, 2017).
L’Oreal should create huge employment scopes for the local people so that the poorest
people can be developed financially and economically.
5.3 Reflection
I have used here primary data collection method. This has been effective method during the project
to meet the aim and objectives. I had the option of using secondary data collection method. Primary
method has been effective to collect the response and views from the key population. I have also
used quantitative method and here, I had the option of using qualitative method. Quantitative
method helped me to make the decision scientifically and this was not possible if using qualitative
method.
Reaching to the sampled people and effective data collection was the problem to me at first. Time
and resource shortage has affected me to conduct the survey effectively and so, the help of the
mentor has been taken.
At first, I was frightened with the burden on my shoulder. This was happened due to my
inexperience and then, gradual planning and practicing has helped me to get the confidence.
My evaluating skills learnt in the academic life have been used by me here to make solution to
different issues related to the impact globalization on the businesses. I was on hurry and so, this
project was not in-depth. I could accomplish the project with holistic process and containing all
checklists properly.
I was motivated by my mentor and so, I have used my knowledge and experience effectively. My
self-determination has helped here to use the knowledge actually. As a novice, I couldn’t
understand all the instructions of my mentor. Gradually, I have overcome all the issues and become
skilled and experienced. I have used the probability sampling and have conducted a questionnaire
survey using my knowledge on communication and project quality. I have analyzed collected data
to get proper findings. I had used MS Office, tables, graphs and diagrams etc to analyze and present
the outcome of the survey results. This project has finally opened a new proposal for me to conduct
an in-depth research.
I have identified some issues on which I need to focus to ensure the further development. I need
some development in communication and conversation. I will develop this doing practices. In the
future, I have the target of conducting an in-depth research project on this topic. My limitations
have been focused to make my action plan here.
