QUESTION NO. 1.0
(a) IEE or JS21 regulation prescribe that consumer's main switch gear shall provide means
of interrupting the supply in the event of excess current or dangerous earth
leakage current Isolation. Describe equipment which will meet these requirements, and
show in each case how the regulation will be satisfied.
(b) Design a full-wave rectifier to supply 12Vdc / 60W from an 110V supply, identifying all
the components used giving their function and specification.
QUESTION NO. 2.0
(a) Explain the reasons for the use of high voltage transmission in power distribution and
methods of stepping up and down the voltage at the supply and at the consumer’s
premises
(b) Using suitable diagrams explain the principle of generating and transmitting electrical
energy in Jamaica, giving typical voltage values at the generation, transmission and
distribution stages.
Describe, with sketches, all of the following:
(i) Broad base receptacle.
(ii) 110V/15 A convenience outlet 3-pin.
(iii) 8-way 2 phase panel.
(iv) PVC junction box.
For each of these accessories describe or state what particular qualities you would
demand.

Draw a wiring (schematic) diagram for an installation consisting of the following loads.
(i) 4 - lights 110 V / 40 W each controlled by a single switch.
(ii) 1 - lights 110 V/ 40W controlled by Four (4) way switching.

(iii) 1 - lights 110 V/ 40W controlled by two (2) way switching.
