1 Safety Precautions
When installing or removing power cables, ensure that the corresponding circuits are
disconnected to prevent electric arcs or sparks.
If AC input power cables need to be routed from the top, bend the cables in a U shape
outside the cabinet and then route them into the cabinet.
Store cables for at least 24 hours at room temperature before laying out them if they were
previously stored at sub-0ºC.
Perform routine maintenance as described in this manual; replace faulty components at
the earliest.
AC and DC Power
The power system is powered by high-voltage power sources. Direct or indirect contact
(through damp objects) with high-voltage power sources may result in serious injury or
death.
Non-standard and improper operations may result in fire or electric shocks.
Before making electrical connections, turn off the protection switch on the upstream
device to cut the power supply.
Before connecting the AC power supply, ensure that electrical connections are complete.
ESD
To prevent electrostatic-sensitive components from being damaged by static from human
bodies, wear a grounded electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap or ESD gloves when
touching circuit boards.
When holding a board, hold its edge without touching any components, especially chips.
Package boards with ESD packaging materials before storing or transporting them.
Liquid Prevention
Do not place the product in areas prone to water leakage, such as near air conditioner
vents, ventilation vents, or feeder windows of the equipment room.
Ensure that there is no condensation inside the product or equipment room.
Ensure that no liquid enters the product. Otherwise, short circuits will occur and may
result in serious injury or death.
If any liquid is detected inside the product, immediately disconnect the power supply and
contact the administrator.
Battery short circuits will generate high transient currents and release a great deal of energy,
which may cause personal injury.
If conditions permit, disconnect the batteries in use before performing any other operations on
them.

Procedure
Step 1 Set the address DIP switches on the rear of the lithium battery system subracks and ensure
that the subrack addresses are different.
Set the address DIP switches for the lithium battery system before system power-on.
After system power-on, if the address DIP switch is modified, the modified setting does
not take effect and the address of the lithium battery system will not be affected. If you
need the new address to take effect, power off and restart (for example, reseat) the lithium
battery system subrack.
----End
Before installing the lithium battery system subrack, check the TOP and UP labels on the
subrack surface. Ensure that the surface with the TOP label faces upwards during installation.

installation instructions. Correct and clear cable labels have been attached to power
cables and communications cables.
Use a multimeter set to the ohm position to check that there is no short circuit between
the input live wire, neutral wire, and PE wire, and there is no short circuit between the
output positive and negative terminals.
4 Power-On Guide
Commissioning personnel must have received proper technical training and perform
operations according to the commissioning instructions.
Verify the device installation before commissioning power devices.
Commissioning is live working. During commissioning, stand on a dry insulated object
and use insulated tools.
Do not wear metal objects such as watches and necklaces during operations to avoid
contact with electrified bodies.
Before switching on units or components, ensure that their status meets requirements.
When you are performing operations and do not want others to operate, attach the label
"Currently being serviced. Do not switch on." to the user equipment.
During commissioning, shut down the power system immediately if any fault is detected.
Rectify the fault before proceeding with the commissioning.
Procedure
Step 1 Measure the AC voltage of the upstream AC input switch and ensure that the voltage is 240 V
AC (216–264 V AC).
Step 2 Turn on the upstream AC input switch and check that the running indicators on the rectifiers
are steady green.
Step 3 After the rectifiers are powered on, the ESMs start and switch from Sleep mode to Disconnect
mode. If the system busbar voltage is normal (refer to Step 4), the ESMs will switch to the
charging state. Check that the running indicators on the ESMs are steady green.
Step 4 Measure the voltage between the 48 V (+) and 48 V (–) busbars of the power system as well
as the voltage between the 48 V (+) and 48 V (–) busbars of the lithium battery system. The
voltages should be within the range of 54.5 V DC to 58.0 V DC.
1. During system power-on, if the indicators on the rectifiers or ESMs are abnormal, contact Huawei
technical engineers and troubleshoot the equipment with the help of the engineers and user manual.
2. During system power-on, you can view the alarm status of the power system and lithium battery
system on the NMS. If any alarms have been generated, contact Huawei technical engineers and
rectify the faults with the help of the engineers and user manual.
3. After ESMs are powered on, you are advised to simulate mains power-off and power-on situations
by turning off or on the upstream AC input switch of the power system, and check whether the
ESMs can discharge and be charged properly.
4. During power system commissioning, if you do not want the lithium battery system to discharge
after the power system is powered off, you can send a Sleep command to the lithium battery system
before powering off the power system to make the ESMs sleep. When the power system supplies
power normally, you can send a Stop Sleep command to make the ESMs return to disconnect mode.
----End
1. Dispose of bulging ESMs directly irrespective of how long they have been stored.
2. The storage duration (t) starts from the latest charge time on the ESM package. Update the latest
charge time after every charge.
3. If an ESM is qualified after recharge, mark the latest charge time and the next recharge time on the
ESM packing case. The next recharge time is 8 months (stored above 30°C) or 12 months (stored
below 30°C) later than the latest charge time. The total storage duration should not exceed the
warranty period.
Parameter Specifications
Charge duration: 2 h ≤ t ≤ 8 h. Check that the CHG indicator on the ESM front panel is steady
on and the RUN indicator is on during the charge; the CHG indicator is off and the RUN
indicator is on after the charge; the ALM indicator is off during and after the charge.
After the charge is full, remove the ESM from the power system before powering off the
power system.
If the ALM indicator is steady on during and after the charge, the ESM has internal faults or
alarms. They are exceptions, and should be reported and analyzed. Under this circumstance, it
is possible that the batteries are not fully charged.
Recommended
ESM Backup ESM Discharge Default Discharge
Temperature Power Time Range Time
15–35°C 0.5 kW 0–15 mins 2 mins
1.0 kW 0–7 mins
1.5 kW 0–4 mins
2.0 kW 0–3 mins
2.5 kW 0–2 mins
Do not modify the backup time during the charging and discharging. Otherwise, the ESM may
disconnect early.
After the ESM discharge time reaches the preset value, it enters Disconnect mode and reports a
Backup Time End alarm. The remaining ESM backup time is zero, and will be restored to the preset
value after the batteries are fully charged.
After the ESM backup time is used up, the ESM cannot discharge unless being fully charged again.
If an AC power failure occurs while the batteries are being charged, the ESM may not implement the
backup function.
After the ESM ends discharging due to backup time used up or discharge protection alarm, the BMS
obtains power from electrochemical cells within 5 mins after the disconnection, records the battery
data, and obtains power from the busbar after 5 mins.
Assuming that the preset pre-alarm time is greater than zero and less than or equal to the
backup time, the ESM reports a short backup time alarm when the remaining backup
time is less than or equal to the pre-alarm time.
When the remaining backup time is zero, the short backup time alarm disappears, and the
backup stop alarm is generated.
Before the SOH detection, check the power grid and configuration. If the configuration is incorrect
or the N+1 and above backup requirements cannot be met, the backup time may be insufficient or
the system may experience a power failure if a mains outage occurs in the SOH test.
If the total load power is less than 1 kW, the SOH function cannot be tested.
EOL Alarm
The ESM is able to predict the battery service life based on the delivery date and operating
ambient temperature, and report an EOL alarm upon expiration.
The EOL alarm indicates that the battery SOH is at risk. You are advised to enable the SOH
detection promptly. If the EOL alarm persists, you are advised to replace the ESM. Otherwise,
the ESM backup time may be insufficient.
