11. Aims of the Programme

The programme aims to equip graduates with the knowledge, technical and interpersonal skills
necessary for taking part in the design, implementation and management of modern computer
systems and to enable them to work as professionally-minded computer practitioners able to meet the
responsibilities and challenges demanded by the computing industry by:
 developing students’ knowledge of information systems in the areas of system specification,
development, maintenance and management.
 developing students’ knowledge of computer networks and the technical and managerial issues
associated with them.

15. Personal Development Planning

The Programme aims identify the need to develop technical and interpersonal skills and generic
transferable skills required to meet the responsibilities and challenges demanded by the computing
industry.

The course has been designed to reflect the aforementioned and develop the following transferable
skills:

 critical evaluation
 reflective practice
 report-writing skills
 investigative (information finding) skills
 independent learning
 team work
 time management.

The process begins in the orientation week of the programme with an induction scheme aimed at
developing reflective learning skills and is continued pervasively through the delivery of the course
modules.

During the orientation week students will develop their personal development plan. There are
opportunities, throughout the course, for students to develop as reflective learners develop their
personal development plan via discussion forums and live chat sessions.

 The NCC Education Level 5 Diploma in Business Information Technology (QCF) (L5DBIT)

 The NCC Education Level 5 Diploma in Computer Studies (NQF) (L5DCS)
