Course Description:
The course MATH 1021 is designed as a first course in linear algebra for students in mathematics and
related degrees at York University. Its main objective is to develop tools for solving systems of linear
equations and to introduce the concepts mentioned above. Although this course does not contain abstract
linear algebra, it is a rigorous mathematics class with proofs.
The course will cover roughly Chapters 1—5 of the textbook. The material will not be covered in the
order it appears in the textbook. Some sections of these chapters will be skipped and additional material
may be added if needed.
