Introduction

Work Immersion Training is part of a senior high school curriculum that aims
to train and orient students about the work and their future career. It is a type of skill
development where a worker learns how to do the work through hands-on experience.
On the Work Immersion Training is one method by which students are exposed with
different work situation designed to give students an opportunity to experience and a
chance to apply the theories and computation that they have learned from the school. It
also helps the students to acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in actual
work setting.

Work Immersion is very important not only to teach students regarding their
chosen career but also to show students the reality of working. The students will be
exposed to the actual work related to the track and strand that they are taking. It also
allows those with no experience to work and to learn at the same time.Work Immersion
helps the trainee to learn more about his chosen field and practice what he has learned
from the school. It helps in the building up of the trainee’s competence. Of course, when
a students is competent enough, he will be able to do things successfully and. This
training develops one’s professionalism in dealing with people. After the training, the
trainee will be able to handle situations properly and he’ll be able to know how to
socialize well with his schoolmates. He will also be able to work well with everyone
and he’ll have a good teamwork. OJT also enhances the critical thinking abilities and
discipline of the student conducting his training in a company. His ability to make sound
decisions and evaluate pertinent factors will be improved.

Having a proper Work Immersion helps in the preparation of future

professionals for their future jobs. What the students learned in their Work Immersion,
even the little things, can be applied when they are already working. Students will be
trained not only academically but socially as well. The way they work and communicate
with others will not be a problem for them anymore. It also gives the trainee the chance
to immerse himself in his chosen field and experience and learn the skills necessary to
the industry he is interested in. Working with experienced staff, one will be able to
observe how the job is done properly.
Aside from work experience, Work Immersion allows the trainee to get
acquainted with the real professionals and to meet people having different positions in
the company, either high or low. The trainee will be able to know how to adjust from
the people’s personalities and attitudes. Work Immersion requires effort and
seriousness. A trainee should take the Work Immersion seriously as powerful tool for
a person in preparing for the next chapter of life as a professional. It can possibly a
source of recommendation when they take that big lift from being students to career
professionals someday.

LCGH IT-Department – this is where we are assigned together with my classmate and my
friend to conduct our immersion. On the first day of training our department head gives us a
little tour on the hospital to familiarize different departments and offices.

In the first day I didn’t expect that we will get along easily with our department heads and
two of our college co-workers. Our first task is to print and photocopy various forms for
different offices and deliver them.
Due to bad weather we are not able to go to our immersion. So we are not able to go for 2
days. Our partnership focal person Mr. Ricky advices us to go back t our immersion when the
weather is already good.

So finally after 2 days we are able to continue our remaining 9 days at LCGH upon arriving
at the office I clean and pick some rubbish wholeheartedly. We assisted our co-trainees to
format and install new operating system on a computer.

Since I don’t like messy environment I make make routine to clean before and after working.

On the third day, honestly we just watch our departments heads do some troubleshooting on a
computer that is not able to access the internet. We assisted also our co-trainees to set-up new
computer sets in the chief of hospital’s office.

Overall it is a great week to begin with, lots of fun and learning. I like how our office mates
welcome us, they are very accommodating and considerate.

This is my second week here at LCGH as a immersion students. This is the busiest week in
my immersion.

On the first day of this week I just printed some documents by the nurses and deliver them. I
ask my department head that, is it normal that we just here waiting for call to respond to?? He
said “Yes, it is normal. There are days that there are no calls to respond to and what we do is
browse the internet all day but there are days that are busy enough that you cannot even find
time to sit”.

On the second day, again printed some documents and deliver them to their respective offices.
It is not that much that we’ve have done this day. It is one of the days that my department head
mentioned that there are no calls to respond to.

The third day of this week is the busiest day of my immersion. This are the days mentioned by
my boss that you cannot even find time to sit. We install new telephone line at the PhilHealth
office, we also refill the printer’s inks to different offices . We set-up again the computer of the
chief of hospital Doc-A since the one that we set-up earlier have some trouble connecting to
the internet.

We downgraded Windows 10 to Windows 7 that it will perform faster. Since we’ve installed a
new telephone everyone in the hospital must know the new telephone number of the PhilHealth
office, so we printed a new telephone number referral sheet and give them to different
departments and offices.

On the next day it is finally our turn to format and set-up a computer and we again refill some
printer inks. Since our office is mainly on maintenance we only have things to do when people
calls us and when people needs some documents to be printed.

On Friday we restarted LAN servers and the telephone lines in the different floors. We refill
printer inks to some offices. It is not that much we’ve done today.

It is my last week in LCGH and I am sad because why? when you already adapt to the system
it is time that you are leaving.

On Monday, again we refill inks, troubleshoot some computer and telephone lines. I also help
my classmate to crimp a lan cable I do not know how to do it by myself.

On the next we just enjoy our last day by enjoying the aircon and have some boys talks with
our supervisor. We also give them what they in the office such as flashlight and soldering iron.
LEARNINGS

The immersion I had in Laoag City General Hospital IT-Department expand my knowledge
and social skills. In everyday that God create, it expand my experience to expose in the real
work and real situation of life. And became familiar to the operation of an IT department. Aside
from those things, I also learned to be more sociable and to adjust myself in the environment
where I am working at and who I am working with.

In my ten days staying there, I learned many things not only the things that are related to
computers but also the things that molded me into the person I am right now. As I was working
as immersion student in LCGH- IT, I learned to be hard-working person and to be patient. The
time to finish various task assigned to me is important, but it is also important that I should do
it correctly. I learned to appreciate even the simplest lessons they taught us in school and in
our home. I was able to realize the importance of good manners and right conduct. Also, to
understand that everything that was taught in the school can be a tool that can be used in my
future career, because during my immersion, the terms that I’ve learned related to computer
were used in the IT department. As I was conducting my immersion there, I also learned to
follow chronology of instructions and to accept or admit my failure and should learn from it as
what my department head said to me.

After the immersion, I realized that the immersion is not just a requirement to be completed
but it is an opportunity to experience the feeling of being a professional already.

Aside from the experiences that I had related to computers, this immersion allowed me to get
acquainted with the employees of LCGH. Meeting them is a pleasure for me. During my stay
there as an immersion student, they kept on encouraging and motivating me to study hard and
to do my best always. I also learned how to be more sociable and to be more confident in
anything that I do.
All the people I have worked with has left a piece of advice to me that I will surely keep in
mind and in my heart for the rest of my life. I had a very meaningful and memorable immersion
at LCGH. And probably the best 10 days of my life.

CONCLUSION

Nothing beats experience as the perfect learning tool. This immersion served as my stepping
stone to pursue my dream to be Computer Engineer someday. This immersion gave me an
inspiration to be more serious and focused in studying. I was encouraged to do more efforts in
my studies. Since I was given some ideas about the work of an IT consultant in the hospital
where I conducted my training, I am inspired to be like them someday.

Despite the short period of my immersion, it was still a very meaningful one. The immersion
enriched my confidence created a foundation of being a good employee someday. It caused a
very huge effect to me as a aspiring Computer Engineer. I was really renewed. I learned to be
diplomatic in both action and words.

This immersion made me realize that it is really good to know what you’re doing, and to love
it. As a student, what I can do for now is to learn whatever I can in school, be inspired, love
the path I am taking, and to do my best in everything I do , with a positive outlook in mind. I
realized that I should be more focused in school and do evetyhing wholeheartedly and with all
that I can.

It is also very warm to the heart to know that you have accomplished something and even
warmer when there are people who are so proud of what you have done and I felt this feeling
in my immersion. It inspired me to be more determined and eager to succeed.

This immersion is very helpful and will be very helpful to me as I continue to pursue my dream
as an Computer Engineer. It reall gave me a taste of the real world.
