Defining Administration and Land Management

Land management deals with managing land as a finite resource for societal benefit, including using land for economic activity and maintaining quality of life. Land administration provides services related to land tenure security, valuation, and characteristics by maintaining land rights records, surveys, maps, and market information. The major challenges for land administration are limited access to complete and accurate spatially referenced land information, outdated land laws and policies, and ineffective coordination between land institutions.

Defining Administration and

Land Management
Land Administration and
Management
• Land management is concerned with the
management of land as a finite resource for the
betterment of society. This includes considerations of
land as a basis for revenue and economic activity and
quality of life (eg clean water, recreation). Effective
and timely decision making is often limited by
inadequate land information.
• Land administration functions provide services to
government, business and society generally on land
tenure security, land valuation (appraisal) and land
characteristics. This requires: maintaining land rights,
land survey and maps and land market (valuation)
information up to date and disseminating that
information.Courtesy of Land Equity International
