A1. The three things that are praised in the poem are the mesmerising sound and the various
shades of the water of the river Ravi as it courses its way through the night. The poet also
appreciates the heart-warming and kind nature of the people who resides near the river.

# Q2. What qualities do you think the river shares with the little boy in the poem?
A2. The river Ravi not only shares its name in common with the four year old boy but also shares
the restless and playful nature of the boy. The boy continues to play in the pasture despite the
sunrays causing freckles on the skin. Similarly the river continues to flow without taking rest.

# Q3. What does the poet want to take back with him? Is this possible?
A3. The poet wants to take back with him the sound of the water of the river, its thousand faces
and the laughter in its gurgle, the warmth of its people, the playful nature of the boy named
after it, the wisdom of the river, and its silent nature. This is not possible.

A4. The poet realises at the end of the poem that he cannot take back anything of the river with
him. He can only cherish the memories.

west at the boundary of Jammu and Kashmir. It then flows to Pakistan.
