Abstract

Abstract should content in brief - introduction, literature review, problem


defined, methodology adopted and expected outcome. Abstract should be of maximum
2 pages. Abstract should be continuous text without title. Adopt only paragraphs for
bifurcations between points. Font should be Times New Roman, Size 12, Alignment
justify, Line spacing 1.15 for all text (expect titles) from abstract onwards.

Literature Review

2.1 INTRODUCTION

Base Isolation is one of the popular passive control techniques (Kelly 1997).
The parameters of various isolators used in this study are tabulated in Table 2.1 so that
initial period of all isolators should be 2 s.
2.1.1 Elastomeric Bearings
Base isolation is considered to be an aseismic design approach in which the
building is protected from the hazards of earthquake forces by a mechanism which
reduces the transmission of horizontal acceleration into the structure (Jangid and Datta,
1995).
2.1.1.1 New Zealand System (NZ)
The section and elements of NZ system are shown in Figure 2.1(a), the
analytical model is shown in Figure 2.1(b), and the force deformation behavior is
shown in Figure 2.1(c).
