1. What is your full name? What is your age?

Name – Joseph Jayaraj , Age - 42

2. Where do you live? Name of the place and State.

I Live in Bangalore, City – Bangalore, State - Karnataka

3. Your education.

I have completed my 7th Standard.

4. Family background your wife and children (if you are married).

We are six members in my family including me. First of my respected Father who was in the army
(late). then my mother she is House wife. I have lovely three kids all my little girls are studying in 1 st
standard ,UKG and kindergarten, my wife is a homemaker.

5. Details about your wife and children (if you are married).

I am married with Three kids.

Wife – Home maker

Kids – 3 – all are in lower school.

6. What work did you do before the accident. Describe it.

I was a professional painter as a contractor for HAL (Helicopters & Plans). aircraft spray painter at
the government facility in Bangalore.

I was also doing part-time spray-painting job for all kind of vehicles for authorised automobile
companies in Bangalore.

7. Date of accident. How did it happen? Describe what happened.

On 13th September 2013 i was a victim of a road traffic accident when my 2-wheeler was hit by a car
on the way to Coimbatore (Tamilnadu). The speeding car that hit me on the highway was driven by
an amateur who did not have any documents nor was aware on how to drive (but as you know the
law in India my case was dismissed as saying the driver lost control of the car) I was assessed as
having seventy five percent permanent disability by the Karnataka state medical board. I suffered
multiple life-threatening injuries and my right leg was amputated above the knee. I have metal
plates infused in my body to support me, Recovery has been long and painful and with multiple
surgeries followed.
8. Why was your foot amputated?

I am told that help arrived late, and my foot was amputated due to gangrene setting in. I was
aware of losing my foot only after 20 days when I came to my senses of what had happened to me.

9. Describe your feelings on knowing that you had lost your foot. Were you depressed?

After realising that I had lost my right leg the only thing that came to my head was I need to support
my kids in whatever possible way I could, In ways that I can make their lives better. I started my
journey to find ways to feed my family and support my medical expense. I was always had faith and
will have faith that I will return to normal and achieve more than what I could have done before.

Depressed – Was never depressed, this as only made me stronger in my will to achieve.

10. How did life change after the accident? Did you have to look for a new profession or job?

After the accident and the initial Hospital expenses & surgeries, I needed to find the source of
income to feed my family. I took up driving auto during the nights and doing resales for used cars.
And other odd jobs to make ends meet.

11. How did you hear about Dr Khemka?

My initial intension was to find how people with amputation suffered and had came across Dr
Munjed AL Muderis, who seemed to be a doctor who was helping war veterans get back to their
near regular lifestyle.

Hence my journey started in doing my own research on what is Osseointegration and how can it help
me. Knowing that I was strong willed to get my life back to support my family I started reaching to
everyone who I meet or came across for help. After understanding the cost involved to travel abroad
and the surgery along with treatment. I had almost given up my hope on getting this surgery done.

That is when a silver lining happened in my life, I came a cross a Photo of Dr Munjed along with Dr
Khemka, at in dawned on my that this is a Doctor from India and with a little help I was able to find
Dr Khemka in India Mumbai.

12. When did you contact him? Did you call him, or did you meet him personally?

After understanding that the Doctor was from India, with a little help I was able to locate Dr
Khemka’s clinic in Mumbai and my initial conversation with the Doctor was through a video call.

13. When did you decide that you wanted to do the operation with Dr Khemka?

At first, I was joyful as I would get my Surgery done, that is when I reached out to Doctor to get my
surgery done in India.

14. How did you raise the money for the operation?

While I was Joyful to know that my surgery was possible, I was also worried as the cost involved was
1/10th of the cost required to do the surgery abroad. Knowing that I was making ends meet to just
feed my family I realised I had raise funds for the surgery and by the support I was getting it was
near to impossible to get my surgery done in this life time! but as it goes a strong will never fails with
a little help from different people and the doctor himself I was able to undergo the knife for one last
time. Thank you Doctor once again!

15. When was the operation done? Did your family come with you? Where did they stay?

My first Surgery was done in September 2019, Has my kids had to go to School my wife stayed back
and I travelled along with my aged mother to Mumbai.

My Kids stayed alone with my wife in Bangalore, while my mother stayed with me in hospital.

16. When you told your family that you wanted to do the operation what was their reaction? Did
they encourage you?

As I am the bread winner for the family they only wanted to see return to my regular life, My kids
and wife have been my strength and support throughout my life’s journey.

17. What was the rehabilitation process after the operation? Describe the feelings after the
operation?

With tears of Joy the first thing being I remember is standing on my own legs, As I understand that
the rehabilitation process is 4-8 months to recover and I am in my second month and I have already
started to do most things myself. Which cannot be explained in words.

18. How has life changed for you after the operation?

I can only thank GOD & Dr Khemka for giving me a second life to live again to it its fullest.
