Updated: Confirmed (NOT Sent!)
updated i. The tutor must clock in the ‘Class Table’ 30-10 minutes before the start of the first class. He/she requires pressing the ‘Yes, I am ready’
button before the first class. If the tutor misses the 'Duty Check' before the class, usually a skype calling conducted by the CS, his/her classes may
be canceled and even recorded as ‘Absence.' If the tutor did not clock-in 10 min before the first class, he/she would get a penalty on "late for clock-
in."
ii. Each lesson consists of 25 minutes. The Tutor has the duty to conduct the lesson on time. Any absence, lateness or leaving early without prior
notice will result in the penalty of lesson fee and even warning letters.
2. Cancellations of Classes: updated
i. The tutor cannot cancel lessons that have been already booked.
ii. If an emergency arises, you must notify your DS and the CS staff at least 24 hours before the start of the lesson.
iii. If the cancellation request is confirmed (NOT sent!) by the DS/CS within 24 hours before the classes, the first four (4) canceled classes will still be
recorded as ‘Absence’ and the penalty will be conducted. For the case when the cancellation is not even notified by the CS/DS, the tutor will
receive a warning letter because of the ‘Absence.' For the non-human emergencies, the tutor can open a dispute providing effective proof to
his/her direct supervisor to reconsider the penalty.
iv. If your cancellation request is not confirmed by the DS/CS, you cannot cancel those classes.
v. The penalty for every "Absence" is two (2) times of the lesson fee, equally the hourly rate.
vi. For the schedule without lessons, The Tutor must be on standby for unexpected lessons and other assignments with his/her SKYPE online and
phone connectable. If The Tutor has to deal with other business during the "free" schedule, he/she must inform the CS and Manager 30 min in
advance. Any unreachable situation during the shift on duty will be considered as Absence.
vii. The tutor will not be paid the base fee for the cancellations due to the tutor's problems including those affected by the fortuitous events such as
typhoon, earthquake, etc.
viii. Don't settle student cancellation without authorization. For any cancellations from students, you are not allowed to permit and can't permit it.
What you can do is inform our CS of this, click CS Assistance right away, and let all it solved by CS members. Violators will lose his or her class fee of
that class as the punishment of the violation.
3. Warning Letter & Termination Letter
i. The Tutor may receive the warning letter from Acadsoc if she/he’s not able to comply with his/her duties (absence, lateness and poor

ii. If The Tutor fails to accord to the rules and ignore the management of the Acadsoc staff, having the warning letters for 3 times, he/she will
receive the termination Letter from Acadsoc. Please also check the Restrictions session in training kit very carefully.

4. Tutor's Nationality
Students are usually curious about tutor’s nationality and where they are from. To avoid discrimination based on nationality and to build an
environment that only focuses on tutor’s teaching abilities, Acadsoc strongly recommends that every tutor uses the below answers when a student
asks where you are from.
Student: Where are you from? / What's your nationality?
Tutor: Sorry, I am not allowed to disclose my nationality, because it is a code in Acadsoc that tutors should be judged by their teaching abilities, but
not nationalities, as there were cases where our teachers were discriminated and insulted by a student because of her nationality. All I can confirm
with you is that I am currently working in a London/ New York based company.

² What if I encountered another problem but have already used CS Assistance?
---You can direct your student to contact CS themselves, by sending the below sentence in Chinese.
The demo class will be a 25m real class with one of our real students. Please check the below tips for passing the demo.
-Lesson material is on the student's page.
-Contact the student on time.
-Check if the student has the correct material ready for class.
-Send the link to the material or share the screen with the student if the student doesn't have the book.
-Always correct the student (grammar and pronunciation).
-Be lively in the class.
-Add the student before the class time.
-Do the wrap-up.
-Do the report on time.
-Make a brief introduction when the class begins.
-Be careful on your accent and grammar.
Tips for editing your profile in the tutor system:
1. Make your audio and introduction longer and interesting to students.
Do not just copy the example in the system.
Add more detailed information, such as your working experience relating to English teaching, speaking, writing, your characteristics (e.g.,
passionate, like challenges), and areas you are good at (e.g., teaching kids, TOFEL).
It's not necessary to say "I am a nurse/call center agent by profession" in your introduction, as you are now a professional teacher already, and
students only want to know you are an experienced ESL teacher.
2. Use the second person. Persuade the students to choose u among all other competitive tutors.
3. Acadsoc prefers neutral, American or British accent.
Slow down your pace and practice more if you have an apparent accent.
Pay more attention to certain words (e.g., possible, basic, guarantee, stress...) and intonation.
4. Avoid mentioning nationality and locations. And also do not mention these during classes.
5. Make your audio clear without echo and noise (no dog barking, no baby crying please).
6. Use standardized written English without typos and format errors.
The above are the basic requirements, and other aspects may be considered as well such as working attitude and teaching ability. Your DS will
finally decide if you can pass probation or not.
If you did not meet the above requirements within 1 month, your probationary may be extended for several weeks at your DS's discretion.

Beginning Guide to teaching ESL
This guide is provided for those of you who would like to know some of the basics of teaching English to non-native speakers of English. It provides
some fundamental guidelines which will make your teaching more successful and satisfying for both the student and you.
There are a few important aspects to always keep in mind while developing any curriculum, be it only a few lessons or a full course:
Language skills need to be recycled many times before they are actively acquired.
All language skills - reading, writing, speaking and listening - should be involved in the learning process.
Understanding grammar rules do not mean that a student can use that grammar - students need to actively practice skills they are
learning.
Language Recycling
The language being acquired needs to be repeated in a various number of guides before it can be actively used by the student. Studies have shown
that new linguistic functions need to be repeated at least six times before most learners can consider the new piece of language theirs. After six
repetitions, the newly acquired language skills are usually still only passively activated. The learner will require much more repetitions before
he/she will be able to use the skills actively in everyday conversation!
Here is an example of language recycling using the present simple:
Work on the present simple rules.
Read an article about the daily routines of someone.
Listen to someone who describes his/her daily tasks.
Have a discussion asking him to describe what he does on a daily basis, his wife, ask you questions etc.
Tell me about your past - Where did you go on your last holiday
Past simple Example: What did you go on holiday when you were a child? I work
"to be" past Example: The weather was fantastic.
Irregular verbs Example: go - went, shine – shone
Finally, the lesson generally will be divided into three principle sections:
Introduction - introducing or reviewing the grammar or function.
Development - taking that grammar and working on it in a reading, listening, or another form. This section should make up the bulk of
your lesson and include some different activities if possible.
Review - review the principle concepts covered during the lesson. This can be very straight forward, and either student or teacher led
depending on the level of your learners. Take a look at some of the lesson plans here at esl.about.com (feel free to use them!) and notice how
the various methods mentioned above are employed while focusing on one specific linguistic function.
3. Please ask the students' feedback on your "SPEAKING SPEED, VOICE and LESSON
STRUCTURE etc" now and then.
