Assembly Project

ASSEMBLY PROJECT 

 
LEARNING OBJECTIVES 
● Learn how to use laser cutter 
● Practice with OnShape Assemblies  
● Learn about joints/connections/mates 
 
 
For this project you must create a 3D shape from Matboard 
that ​stands up​ and has at least  
6 pieces​ that join together and​ 2 types of joints.  
 
Directions:  
 
1. Using Onshape, design each of your parts. Each part should be in its own Part Studio.  
2. Then when all the parts are completed, assemble it in the Assembly option on Onshape 
3. Using the various types of mates, connect all the pieces together in the way they should fit together.  
4. Turn each of your Part Studios into DXF files.  
a. To do this you have to have the front view on a Drawing and then save it as a DXF. 
b. Upload each dxf. File to google classroom or save it on the network drive or on a flashdrive or on 
google drive.   
5. Using the laser cutter, laser each of the pieces into the matboard  
6. Assemble your project and turn in  
7. Write a 1 paragraph reasoning for your project.
