DMSP Nighttime Lights of China: Di BG TH Driven by Growth

Satellite observed nighttime lighting in China more than doubled from 1992 to 2009, tracking growth in GDP and population. This pattern of rapid growth in lighting is typical of developing countries undergoing industrialization, while developed countries show stable lighting. The economic downturn beginning in 2008 slowed China's lighting growth. As China continues developing, its lighting levels are expected to eventually stabilize similarly to more developed nations.
