JOB SHEET : Making Up a Bed

UNIT : Preparing Rooms for Guest

READING : Housekeeping Management A. Samson pgs 83-84

OBJECTIVES : The trainees will make up the bed in preparing the room for guest

LABORATORY WORK:
Materials Required:
Bed pad
3 bed sheets
Woolen blanket
Bed cover
Pillow with pillow slip and case

Tools & Equipment Required:


Bed
Procedure

1. Check the bed pad, mattress and box springs.


• If bed pad is torn, strained or damaged, remove it.
• Tell supervisor about the problem right away.
2. Put the first sheet.
• Use linen that are clean, unstained, and without holes.
• Level bottom edge of the sheet against the edge of the mattress foot side so that the sheet hangs at the
head of the bed
• ensure that the sheet hangs equally on both sides of the bed.
• Miter the head corners ensuring a 45 degrees angle and tuck in the sides.
3. Put the second sheet.
• Level the top edge of the sheet against the head of the bed so that sheet hangs at the foot of the bed.
• Ensure that the sheet hangs equally at both sides of the bed.
4. Put the blanket.
• Lay the blanket so that its top edge is about 12 inches below the second sheet.
5. Put the third sheet.
• Position the third sheet the same way as the second sheet.
• Fold the top edge of the third sheet below the top of the blanket.
• Fold the top edge of the second sheet over the folded edge of the third sheet.
• Position at the foot of the bed. Miter corners with a 45 degrees angle and tuck in the sides together
6. Put on pillow cases.
• Insert pillows into the pillowcases.
• Place the pillows on the bed with the opening facing the center (for king size bed) and the opening
towards the opposite sides (for the twin size beds). Place one pillow on top of the other
7. Put the bed cover on the bed.
• Lay the bed cover on the bed w/ equal size hanging over both sides at the foot of the bed.
• Smoothen the bed cover over the pillows towards the head of the bed.
• Tuck the bed cover in between the front edge of the pillows and in between pillows and bed.
• Smoothen the surface of the bed.
• Check bed cover for evenness on both sides and at the foot of the bed.
EVALUATION: Trainer examination and inspection, using the following criteria;

1. All steps and procedures were completed in the correct sequence.


2. All safety precautions were followed in using the tools and equipment.
3. All bed linen be free of hair, dirt, stains, tears and holes.
4. Bed sheets must be tucked in tightly to smooth wrinkles.
5. The beds are always checked for items left by the guest.
6. Mitering should be sharp with a 45 degrees angle
