Working platforms must be equipped with complete floors,

Where overhead work is being conducted, barricades must be
erected around the work area to protect others working below

Portable ladders shall only be used to access scaffold
platforms.
Scaffolding over 4 metres in height shall be erected and
dismantled by a competent and certified scaffolder. The
'Scafftag' system shall be used and scaffold inspected every 7
days by a qualified scaffolder for the scaffold being inspected.
After periods of wet and/or windy weather, erected scaffolding
must be inspected prior to use by as competent scaffolder.
The Project HSE Manager shall maintain a scaffold register on
site.
Administrative Control

Scaffold to be constructed, assembled and maintained in


accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and relevant
Standards.
Scaffold should be placed so that it cannot be struck by mobile
plant or equipment.
Scaff-tag system to be implemented.
Ensure necessary permits are obtained from local authorities
prior to erection of scaffolding.
Scaffolding is not to be erected close to overhead electrical
services – refer to local Regulations.
Scaffold Erection

During erection of scaffolding, Scafftag information tags are to


be fixed at access points – “Scaffolding Incomplete – do no
use”.
When scaffold has been satisfactorily inspected and approved
by a competent scaffolder, it is to be tagged “safe for use” and
inspected on a weekly basis.
Ensure scaffolding cannot be struck by mobile plant or
vehicles. Provide adequate signs, barricades and lighting.
Scaffold use and Maintenance
Scaffolding is to be inspected prior to use and regularly during
use and after adjustments, modifications and adverse weather
conditions for:-

- Planks (secured and in good condition).


- Handrails, mid-rails in place.
- Edge protection (toe boards or mesh guards).
- Adequate access to work platform.
- Total containment where necessary.
- Overloading of work platform.
- Stability, faults, damage.

Before starting work on a scaffold the user is to inspect the
scaffold to determine that:-

- Scaffold has been tagged safe for use.


- Has safe access to work platforms.
- Is adequately braced.
- Has hand and mid rails in place.
- Have toe boards in place.
- Platform boards are secure, safe and not cracked.

Unsafe scaffolding is not to be used and must be reported to the


Supervisor.
Climbing of scaffolding standards or transoms is prohibited.
Tools and equipment are to be removed from scaffold when not
in use.
Work on scaffolding is prohibited during poor weather
conditions i.e. rain, wind.
