To the Vegan Community,

The vegan community. Now I am not talking about those that choose to not eat animal

products and keep to themselves about it. I am talking to the vegans who eat and breathe that life,

and feel the need to tell others they should be living that life too. I am all for promoting the

reasons behind a plant-based diet, but there is a line and it reaches a point where it is just not

necessary. You are not responsible for converting all of humankind to your exact form of

veganism. There is such a large variety of diets and ways of life, even within veganism, that it is

not possible to have a world where we all follow and believe in the same diet, so why give so

much hate to people that aren’t level 5 vegan? It doesn’t add up.

“You don’t care about animals,”....”It’s so easy, everyone should do it,”... “I don't know

how you can eat that knowing your murdering an animal.” The list continues. Vegans are

continually throwing around these comments to those that live a different lifestyle. In reality,

when meat-eaters hear these things they aren’t influenced to change, they are just influenced to

hate on vegans, which is unfair to the majority of vegans and vegetarians who then receive this

bad rep. I myself, as a vegetarian, have had to deal with this numerous times.

The hate given to meat-eaters by vegans is slightly understanding, I get their purpose, but

what about the hate on other vegans? It is unrealistic to think everyone will go vegan, it just will

not happen. Along with this, there are still so many people out there still trying to make a

difference in the rights of animals through being vegetarian or avoiding red meat, so how is it

right, just because someone who follows a plant-based diet but owns clothing that is part of an

animal, to hate on them? They are doing their best, and they are doing so much more than

someone who doesn’t incorporate animal rights into their lives at all. These people are doing

something, which is so important, so I think your time would be better spent either promoting
your ideas to meat eaters, if you feel passionate enough about it, or to keep to yourself living

your lifestyle. It is going to be more beneficial to have a larger group of people participating in

smaller acts of avoiding animal products rather than just a small community of strict vegans.

My point with all of this is that we are all trying. A lot of people are aware of the issues

involving animal ethics, and although some are larger than others, an effort is still an effort no

matter how small. So instead of tearing other vegans apart for not being ‘perfect’ why not say

thank you for the work they have put in. The same goes with meat eaters. It may not be an ideal

lifestyle for a vegan, but it doesn’t give them the okay to bash on them. It is not necessary and

creates a bad name for the vegan community. It is perfectly acceptable to voice your opinion, but

at the end of the day remember to respect people and their decisions.

Sincerely,

Those living a non-vegan lifestyle
