Lord Sri VenkateswaraPreface
During the past four years seven languages (Gujarati, Hindi,
Kannada, Malayalam, Sanskrit, Tamil, and Telugu) of India are taught
in the Sri Venkateswara Vidyalaya at the Sri Venkateswara Temple,
Bridgewater, New Jersey, USA. These classes are conducted at the
Temple on a bi-weekly basis. The course in each language is
designed to offer introductory lessons to enthusiastic children and
adults, and prepare them to read, write, and, if possible, speak that
language. All the students who attended the school for two or three
years showed great deal of motivation in leaming one or more
languages. This project continues to be a tremendous success.
This year, during the Vidyalaya anniversary, the Temple is
proud to release a new “ Tamil Words Search “ book. This is an
exercise type book designed for little kids. This is a leaming-cum-fun
oriented compilation which is intended to enrich the Tamil vocabulary
for kids learning Tamil. Transliteration schemes have also been
introduced to help those who are interested in Tamil. Similar versions
‘on the other languages will be compiled in the future. These books
will also serve as handy material to readily identify equivalent words in
different languages taught in the Temple.
The education committee wishes to thank the Temple
management for its support in this venture. We also would like to take
this opportunity to thank the participating students and their parents.

Author's note
"Tamil Words Search", is a leaming - cum - fun type exercise
book designed for kids leaming Tamil. The students are first
introduced to the Tamil alphabets. An attempt is also made to help
them pronounce the alphabets In Tamil. Kids interested in learning
Tamil are directed to the book “Introductory Tamil Lessons", compiled
two years before at the Hindu Temple and Cultural Society of USA,
Bridgewater, NJ.
The following pages in this book are devoted to a special topic
of interest. The top part of teach page contains a 10X10 grid with
Tamil letters distributed at random. Words in Tamil, the
corresponding transliteration scheme, and the English meaning are
listed at the bottom of each page. These words are related to the
chosen topic and are hidden in the random distribution of letters in the
respective grids. A word may be searched horizontally or diagonal!
(left to right). Words can also be searched vertically downwards.
letter may be shared between one or many words. One may also find
words unrelated to the chosen topic. There are four bonus words in
sah grid (mother - a m maa; father - a p paa; God - ka da vu L; Tamil
- tha mi
