CHAPTER III
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This study was conducted in order to know and determine the
Barriers in Learning the English Language of selected AMT
First Year students of Baao Community College, to gather the
necessary data, the researcher utilized the descriptive method
using both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
The survey methods were the research instruments used to the
data-gathering. The results of the survey were then
processed by computing the weighted mean of each survey
item.
The credibility of findings and conclusions extensively
depend on the quality of the research design, data
collection, data management, and data analysis. This chapter
will be dedicated to the description of the methods and
procedures in order to obtain the data, how they will be
analyzed, interpreted, and how the conclusion will be met.

This section is to justify the means in which the study was
obtained and will help in giving a purpose and strength as
it will then be truthful and analytical. All these will help
in the processing of the data and the formulation of
conclusions.
Respondents
The respondents of this study were composed of 30 AMT First Year
students. These respondents were intellectually qualified to this
kind of research. The researcher chose the respondents because he
believed that they are must given an attention not just they are
capable of giving true and right answers, and are able to help
the researcher to gather the factual data that are needed.

A clear and detailed discussion of the tools used in this study
hereinafter presented;

Questionnaire
The questionnaire was designed to serve as instrument in order to
gather the main data and to properly determine the responses
urged by the study. The questionnaire was finalized after
reviewing the statement of the problem as well as proper revision
applied to the questionnaire and is therefore a final copy was
carefully formulated. The questionnaire focuses particularly to
the students’ barriers in learning the English language. Most of
the items were answered by putting check mark in the appropriate
box.

Research Design
In this research paper the quantitative research design has been
employed and also the method that has been used is descriptive
method. By purpose, research methods consider the basic or
pure research which is conducted primarily to test or arrive
at theory. Its main objective is to established general
principles or methods without known or intended practical
application of the findings. It is in research knowledge for
knowledge’s sake (Fox, 1969.)
Research and Development (R and D) programs deal with
formulating and testing theory and then developing materials
for instruction or for another purposes.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT OF DATA
The researcher used percentage technique to treat the gathered
data.
Percentage Technique
The percentage technique was used to quantify the student-
respondent personal profile. The formula was Bolanos, 1997

Methods Used
The descriptive analytical method was used in this paper.
This was chosen, since this study wanted to gather information
regarding the analysis of the factors affecting the English
speaking skills of Bachelor of Secondary Education 2nd year
section A of Baao Community College.

The sample respondents were drawn from the Bachelor of
Secondary Education 2nd year section A of Baao Community College,
academic year 2018. The total of respondents of which are 28
students.
Procedure of Investigation

This research conducted some library and internet research
that helped me formulate this research proposal, which was
submitted to our adviser as her suggestions, a questionnaire
formulated by my former group mates. Validation was done before
the distribution to the respondents. A permission letter was also
prepared for the permission to distribute the research
instrument.

To ensure effective and systematic data gathered procedure
the researcher used questionnaire-checklist.

The questionnaire checklist was used as a main data-gathering
tool in obtaining the information needed. The questionnaire has
two parts such
as; Part I, personal profile of the respondents and Part II,
knowing the factors affecting the English speaking skills of the
respondents through a checklist questionnaire.
