To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Catherine Crisman and I am writing this recommendation for Angelina Diaz. I am a second
grade teacher at Sumac Elementary School in the Las Virgenes School District. This class was a diverse
group of 18 students with many unique needs including 4 special education students, 3 foreign language
students, one of whom spoke little English, along with other students from Spanish language backgrounds.
It was my pleasure to have the opportunity to work with Angelina during her senior year of student
teaching experience. Angelina was an active participant in the second grade planning and involved in
activities at our school during the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year until the end of the Pepperdine
semester, April 2019.
Angelina did a great job while fulfilling her student teaching obligations. She took initiative and followed
through using methods and teaching approaches presented to her in our classroom. She learned how to use
our class technology programs, how to use grade level materials successfully, and learned to incorporate
the Daily Five classroom management system that was in place in my classroom. Working daily with the
CAFÉ model of reading strategies, she worked those skills into daily lessons. She became aware of the
California Standards and used them as a guideline as she individualized her instruction to meet the needs of
all students. Angelina learned to modify Common Core lessons that would engage and support students in
all areas of the curriculum. Her ability to assess student learning helped her to continue to evaluate her own
performance. Students connected with Angelina, as she possessed great patience, understanding, and cared
about each individual. The students benefited greatly working with Angelina. She made learning fun and
tried creative approaches to learning with the students.
Angelina made a real effort to individualize instruction so that every student felt success, including English
language learners and students in the Special Education and resource program. She worked well with the
grade level team. The environment she provided for all the students was well organized and a place where
they felt secure and could learn at their level. Her work teaching the whole class and small groups was
stimulating and well organized. The students thrived working with her and enjoyed her positive attitude
and encouraging personality. Angelina worked within our class principles of DAILY FIVE for our literacy
program. She spent time working with small groups and individual students on writing and literacy
conferences. Angelina was involved in assessing student levels of Sight Words, High Frequency Word
Lists, Running Records, Spelling Inventories, and monitoring academic achievement.
In conclusion, it was a pleasure to work with Angelina Diaz. She will be a positive addition to any school
in which she is hired. Angelina’s positive personality, organization, management skills, and caring
personality will have a positive impact wherever she goes. I highly recommend Angelina as a teacher and
she would be an asset to any school district.
Sincerely,
Catherine Crisman
