THE CHILD By Philae Artes

Image #1

Height: 4 inches (10 cm)

Materials that you will use:

– Yarn colors: cream and green. I use Brazilian brands' cotton yarns ‐ our default size measures
100g/200m (217 yds). Since different countries measure in different ways, you may have to check your
yarn size. The most important thing is to use the correct hook size to your yarn.
– fabric glue (optional);
– acrylic fiber (to stuff);
– a pair of black safety eyes (13mm);
– crochet hook (3.0mm);
– tapestry needle, scissors and pins.

HEAD AND BODY
Green yarn.
Rnd. 1: 6 sc in magic circle (6)
Rnd. 2: Inc x6 (12)
Rnd. 3: *sc in the next st, inc* x6 (18)
Rnd. 4: *sc in the next 2 st, inc* x6 (24)
Rnd. 5: *sc in the next 3 st, inc* x6 (30)
Rnd. 6: *sc in the next 4 st, inc* x6 (36)
Rnd. 7-11: sc in each sc (36)
Rnd. 12: *sc in the next 4 st, dec* x6 (30)
Rnd. 13: *sc in the next 3 st, dec* x6 (24)
Place the eyes between rows 8 and 9, separated by about 6 points. Depending on your work,
the eyes may need a different location. Be careful in this part, because this is the main detail
that will make your doll look like the character.
Rnd. 14: *sc in the next 2 st, dec* x6 (18)
Stuff.
Rnd. 15: *sc in the next st, dec* x6 (12)
Change to cream color yearn.
Rnd. 16: sc in each sc (12)
Rnd. 17: Inc x 12 (24)
Rnd. 18: *sc in the next 3 st, inc* x6 (30)
Rnd. 19-20: sc in each sc (30)
Rnd. 21: *sc in the next 4 st, inc* x6 (36)
Rnd. 22: *sc in the next 5 st, inc* x6 (42)
Rnd. 23-25: sc in each sc (42)
Just in the next round, you will work only using the back loop (this will make the piece turn in
to be the base of the doll – check image #2):
Rnd. 26: sc in each sc (42)
Rnd. 27: *sc in the next 5 st, dec* x6 (36)
Rnd. 28: *sc in the next 4 st, dec* x6 (30)
Rnd. 29: *sc in the next 3 st, dec* x6 (24)
Rnd. 30: *sc in the next 2 st, dec* x6 (18)
Stuff, but very careful at this point. Keep in mind that the center of the base of the doll will
not touch the ground, in fact the base is concave (slightly rounded inside). This format will give
the doll more stability. See the image #2 to check how the base will look when you finish the
piece. So when stuffing, don't put too much, otherwise you won't be able to push the base
later.
Rnd. 31: *sc in the next st, dec* x6 (12)
Rnd. 32: Dec x6 (6)
Finish and leave a long tail. Using the tapestry needle, use this tail to close the last stiches,
then insert the needle right into the center of this base, pulling it out until it comes out on the
back of the doll. Our goal is to make the base concave and well trapped, as I explained in round
30. Tie a simple knot on the back of the head and hide the end of the tail inside it. To ensure
that the base is rounded, model with your hands until the fiber is in the place you want and
the shape is correct.

ARMS x2
Green yarn.
Rnd. 1: 6 sc in magic circle (6)
Rnd. 2: *sc in the next st, inc* x3 (9)
Rnd. 3: sc in each sc (9)
Change to cream color yarn.
Rnd. 4-6: sc in each sc (9)
Stuff only the hand, not the arm.
Rnd. 7: *sc in the next st, dec* x3 (6)
Finish and leave a long tail to sew it later to the body.

SLEEVES x2
Cream color yarn.
Chain 13 and start in the second chain from the hook:
Rnd. 1: 12 sc (one sc in each chain), then chain 1 and turn.
Rnd. 2: 12 sc (one sc in each st).
Finish and leave a long tail to sew it later to the arms.

COLLAR
Cream color yarn.
Chain 36 and start in the second chain from the hook:
Rnd. 1-5: 35 sc (one sc in each chain/st). Always finish each round doing one chain and turn.
Finish and leave a long tail. You have a rectangle, right? Use this tail to sew the tips, having
then the collar. Hide this tail inside.
Now let's do the detail that stands in front of the collar, which is nothing more than making a
5-point chain. With the tapestry needle, sew this little chain in front of the collar and hide like
tips on the inside.

EARS x2
Green yarn.
Leave a long starting tail (as we will use it to sew the ear on the doll afterwards) and chain 9.
Start in the second chain from the hook:
Rnd. 1: 8 sc (one sc in each chain). From here, always finish every round doing 1 chain and
turning the piece.
Rnd. 2: 1 dec, 6 sc (7)
Rnd. 3: 1 dec, 3 sc, 1 dec (5)
Rnd. 4: 1 dec, 3 sc (4)
Rnd. 5: 1 dec, 2 sc (3)
Rnd. 6: 1 dec, 1 sc (2)
Rnd. 7: 1 Dec (1).
Finish off and hide this tail behind the ear.

Details
Now that we already have all the pieces, let's put them together! Remember that for this, let's
use the tapestry needle. All remaining tails must be hidden in the body. Before sewing
everything, I usually use pins to attach all the parts, then I know where to put or glue them
and see how is going to be like when I finish.

4
- Start by sewing the sleeves on the arms. Each sleeve should be positioned just before starting
the green yarn (hand). Look at the image #3.
- Sew the arms to the body.
- Now position the collar around the neck. Use fabric glue or sew.
- Only now you can sew the ears. Position them where you think it's ideal. Notice in the image
#4 that the base of the ears is sewn inwards, giving the feeling that they warp.

You did it! Is it the same as image #1? 

Thank you!

I am from Brazil, so forgive me for the grammatical erros.

Do not redistribute this PDF file. But it is amazing if you sell the amigurumi doll, just please
mention my brand (@philaeartes).

Attention: Don’t leave small amigurumi pieces near unattended children due to risk of
swallowing it. Also, keep in mind that is always better to use anti-allergic yarn if the amigurumi
is going to be constantly manipulated (used as a toy).

I hope you enjoyed doing this crochet project!
