A brief historical background of Whitman and Frost:-

The famous poet & journalist Mr. Walt Whitman was born in 1819 and the people

of America considered him as the most influential and modern poet. Whitman aimed to

change the traditional style of writing poems. He used the a normal ascetic and simple

form in writing. In 1985 he himself published the 1 st collection of his poems in the name

“ Leaves of grass”. This book has become one of major landmark in American literature.

There are many controversies aroused due to the change in the traditional style of writing

the poems.

Robert Frost, the 4 times Pulitzer prize winner in American poetry, who became

famous with his realistic writing approach. The poet was born in 1874 and till at the age

of 40 he was unknown to every one. He exploded in the field of literature only after hie

return to England. He faced so many tragedies in his life, especially the early demise of

his children. Later he moved to rural area and started agriculture. We can see this

reflections in his poems. Most of his poems narrated the link between the human beings

and nature.
