1.03 REFERENCE STANDARDS


A. ASME B16.1 - Gray Iron Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings: Classes 25, 125, and 250;
2015.
B. ASME B16.5 - Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings NPS 1/2 Through NPS 24 Metric/Inch
Standard; 2017.
C. ASME B16.11 - Forged Fittings, Socket-welding and Threaded; 2016 (Errata 2017).
D. ASME BPVC-VIII-1 - Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 1 - Rules for
Construction of Pressure Vessels; 2017.

1.04 ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS


A. Coordination: Coordinate the installation of pipeworks with size, location and installation of
service utilities.
B. Preinstallation Meeting: Conduct a preinstallation meeting one week prior to the start of the
work of this section; require attendance by all affected installers.
C. Sequencing: Ensure that utility connections are achieved in an orderly and expeditious
manner.
D. Scheduling.

1.05 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: Provide product data for manufactured products and assemblies required for
this project. Include component sizes, rough-in requirements, service sizes, and finishes.
Include product description and model.
B. Certificates: Inspection certificates for pressure vessels from authority having jurisdiction.
C. Manufacturer's Installation Instructions: Indicate hanging and support methods, joining
procedures.
D. Maintenance Contract.
E. Project Record Documents: Record actual locations of flow controls.
F. Maintenance Data: Include installation instructions, assembly views, lubrication
instructions, and replacement parts list.
G. Maintenance Materials: Furnish the following for Owner's use in maintenance of project.

1. Extra Glycol Solution: One container, 4 L size.

1.06 QUALITY ASSURANCE


A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing the type of products
specified in this section, with minimum three years of documented experience.
B. Installer Qualifications: Company specializing in performing work of the type specified in
this section, with minimum five years of experience.
C. Provide all grooved joint couplings, fittings, valves, specialties, and grooving tools from a
single manufacturer.
D. Date stamp all castings used for coupling housings, fittings, valve bodies, etc. for quality
assurance and traceability.
E. Welder Qualifications: Certify in accordance with ASME BPVC-IX.
1. Provide certificate of compliance from authority having jurisdiction, indicating approval
of welders.
F. Unless accepted otherwise by the Design Consultant, use manufacturers and installers that
employ a Quality Management System complying with the program described in ISO 9001-
2000, or similar system.

1.07 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING


A. Accept valves on site in shipping containers with labelling in place. Inspect for damage.
B. Provide temporary protective coating on cast iron and steel valves.
C. Provide temporary end caps and closures on piping and fittings. Maintain in place until
installation.
D. Protect piping systems from entry of foreign materials by temporary covers, completing
sections of the work, and isolating parts of completed system.

1.08 COORDINATION
A. Coordinate layout and installation of hydronic piping and suspension system components
with other construction, including light fixtures, HVAC equipment, fire suppression-system
components, and partition assemblies.
B. Coordinate pipe sleeve installations for foundation wall penetrations.
C. Coordinate piping installation with roof curbs, equipment supports, and roof penetrations.
Roof specialties are specified in the respective civil specification sections.
D. Coordinate pipe fitting pressure classes with products specified in related Sections.
E. Coordinate size and location of concrete bases. Cast anchor-bolt inserts into base.
F. Coordinate installation of pipe sleeves for penetrations through exterior walls and floor
assemblies. Coordinate with requirements for fire-stopping specified in Section "Through-
Penetration Firestop Systems" for fire and smoke wall and floor assemblies.

1.09 FIELD CONDITIONS


A. Do not install underground piping when bedding is wet or frozen.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

B. Manual Type: Short vertical sections of 50 mm diameter pipe to form air chamber, with 3
mm brass needle valve at top of chamber.
C. Float Type:
1. Brass or semi-steel body, copper, polypropylene, or solid non-metallic float, stainless
steel valve and valve seat; suitable for system operating temperature and pressure;
with isolating valve.
2. Cast iron body and cover, float, bronze pilot valve mechanism suitable for system
operating temperature and pressure; with isolating valve.
D. Washer Type:
1. Brass with hygroscopic fiber discs, vent ports, adjustable cap for manual shut-off, and
integral spring loaded ball check valve.

3. Coalescing Medium: Provide structured copper, stainless steel, or ___________
medium filling the entire vessel to suppress turbulence and provide air elimination
efficiency of 100 percent free air, 100 percent entrained air, and 99.6 percent
dissolved air at the installed location.
4. Air Vent: Integral float actuated air vent at top fitting of tank rated at 1030 kPa,
threaded to the top of the separator.
5. Inlet and Outlet Connections: Threaded for 50 DN and smaller; Class 150 flanged
connections for 65 DN and larger.
6. Blowdown Connection: Threaded.

2.08 PUMP CONNECTORS

c. Angular Rotation: 15 degrees.
d. Force developed by 1.5 times specified maximum allowable operating pressure.

4. End Connections: Flanged ductile iron; complying with ASME B16.1 Class 125.
5. End Connections: Threaded; complying with ASME B16.11.
6. Provide pump connector with integral vanes to reduce turbulent flow.
7. Provide necessary accessories including, but not limited to, swivel joints.

2.12 COMBINATION FLOW CONTROLS


There are no combination flow controls in the work.

2.13 FLOW METERS


A. Manufacturers:

B. Clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter providing highly accurate measurements and having no


moving parts and no intrusion into the CHW system. To have an accuracy of ± 0.5 – 1.05%
when installed with 10 diameters straight run before and 5 diameters after the sensors
location. Outputs to give
 Dedicated volume flow calculation with DSP technology
 100 Hz update rate for all output on all primary process values
 Zero-point adjustment on command from discrete input of host system
 User configurable operation display
 Configurable upper and lower alarm and warning limits for all process values
 Multi-parameter outputs, configurable outputs assigned individually to any parameters,
including volume flow, mass flow, flow velocity, density, pressure and medium
temperature.

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION
A. Install specialties in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
B. Where large air quantities can accumulate, provide enlarged air collection standpipes.
C. Provide manual air vents at system high points and as indicated.
D. For automatic air vents in ceiling spaces or other concealed locations, provide vent tubing
to nearest drain.
E. Provide air separator on suction side of system circulation pump and connect to expansion
tank.

F Support pump fittings with floor mounted pipe and flange supports.

3.02 MAINTENANCE
A. Provide a separate maintenance contract for specified maintenance service.
B. Explain corrective actions to Owner's maintenance personnel in person.
