Emerald Enclave
A half-elf sage named Talis,
Talis an expert on white dragons, was a
consultant to the Emerald Enclave on draconic matters until a
few years ago, when she disappeared. Now, rumors have
surfaced that she has spent the time since as the prisoner of the
Cult of the Dragon. She was last seen in the company of Cult
members near the city of Greenest, and if you pass through,
you’ve been advised you should investigate. In addition, a female
cultist responsible for the deaths of two Emerald Enclave
members, Frulam Mondath,
Mondath is believed to be in the area as well,
and causing her death or capture would be considered a worthy
deed. The half-orc hermit Buhrell Caah, a higher-ranking
member of the Enclave, has asked you to look into both of these
women and their current whereabouts. The only member of the
Emerald Enclave believed to live in Greenest is the priest of
Chauntea who oversees the local temple, a level-headed half-elf
named Eadyan Falconmoon,
Falconmoon but he should be able to assist you.
Faction Benefit: Each Emerald Enclave member who makes
contact with Eadyen may request one spell from the following
list for free at the Temple of Chauntea: Cure wounds (1st level),
identify, lesser restoration, prayer of healing (2nd level), remove
curse, speak with dead, divination, greater restoration, raise
dead. This is a one-time benefit that must be used while the
character is still in Greenest. The only cost paid for the spell is
the base price for the consumed material component, if any.
The Harpers
A wandering half-elf monk and high-ranking Harper named
Leosin Erlanthar has sent urgent word for fellow Harpers to
come meet him in a small town called Greenest. He is a longtime
foe of the Cult of the Dragon. Through diligent research and
interviews conducted during his travels between Berdusk and
Candlekeep, Leosin has become convinced that the cult is
engaged in a big operation, and claims to have crucial
information about their plans on the Sword Coast. If you have
trouble finding Leosin, you are instructed to inquire of a friend of
his, a shield dwarf named Escobert the Red.
Red Though not a
Harper, Escobert is the Castellan of a fortified keep in Greenest,
and should be easy to find.
Faction Benefit: Leosin has studied dragons and their lore for
many years as part of his opposition to the cult, and he often
can’t help mentioning details from these studies even in casual
conversation. Each Harper member who makes contact with
Leosin can, at some point during the Hoard of the Dragon
adventure, choose to automatically identify one of the following
by sight: a location built or used by dragons, dragon eggs, or
dragon scales. This insight comes from recalling something
Leosin said in passing. In addition, at one point during the
adventure, when they fail an Intelligence check to recall lore
relating to dragons, a Harper who has made contact with Leosin
can choose to automatically know someone or some book they
can consult for the answer, unless the DM rules that the lore is
unknown and cannot be found. Usually, this information comes
from another visit with Leosin himself, or from another learned
person or creature, or from a library, scriptorium, or university.
Lords Alliance
The governor who runs Greenest is a Lords’ Alliance member of
some renown named Tarbaw Nighthill,
Nighthill a human male of sixty
years. A contact of yours in the Alliance, the priest of Kelemvor
Kieron Etheridge, has informed you that if you pass through
Greenest, Governor Nighthill and his close ally the Castellan of
the town’s fortified keep (a shield dwarf with knotted, tangled,
bright red hair named Escobert the Red)
Red should be able to help
you with shelter and resources. Since Nighthill is well-respected
within the alliance, you are also expected to check in with him to
see if he has any tasks that need doing. A wealthy man, the
governor will likely compensate you well for deeds done in his
service.
Faction Benefit: Allies of the gov ernor can use their clear
association with him and the Castellan when dealing with the
city’s people, and especially the city’s guards. Once during their
time in Greenest, each Lords’ Alliance member of who makes
contact with Governor Nighthill can exert influence over the
governor’s guards and/or requisition simple equipment (or even
horses) for temporary use, as if they were officers of the guard
with a rank just below Castellan Escobert. Anything requisitioned
must be returned before the end of the current session, or
automatically leaves the Lords’ Alliance member’s possession
unless purchased for the appropriate price.
Zhentarim
Once, three members of the Cult of the Dragon were allies of
the Zhentarim in Waterdeep for mutually beneficial purposes,
but they chose to become our enemies. They betrayed a group
of Zhentarim in Skullport to their deaths. Recently, all three have
been spotted in the same region through which you are
traveling; now is our chance for vengeance! Your Zhentaarim
contact Chaab has charged you with killing these treacherous
bastards, or at least tracking them down. Your hit list consists of
three names: a human cultist named Frulam Mondath,
Mondath a half-orc
named Bog Luck,
Luck and a half-dragon named Rezmir
Faction Benefit: Having partnered with Cult of the Dragon
members for a time, contacts in the Zhentarim can impart some
familiarity with its inner workings and customs. This knowledge
may allow a Zhentarim member who takes a cultist prisoner to
infiltrate the ranks of the Cult of the Dragon. Each member of
the Zhentarim who participates in the interrogation of a recently
captured live cultist or initiate of the Cult of the Dragon can
combine their information with what they already know to
create a second identity as an initiate of the cult, enough of a
facade to blend in as a simple grunt or servant. This is a one-time
ability, and while using it, the Zhentarim cannot use the ability
feature granted by their chosen Background. Revealing
themselves as an enemy of the Cult or using their normal
Background feature destroys this false identity immediately and
permanently..
Order of the Gauntlet
.
You have exchanged messages with Ontharr Frume,Frume a
crusading warrior and champion of good. A well-respected
member of the Order of the Gauntlet, Ontharr has asked you to
travel to Greenest in search of rumors of increasing dragon
activity in the area. While there, he asks you to check in with
his old friend, Escobert the Red,
Red a shield dwarf with knotted,
tangled, bright red hair, who is Castellan of the city’s keep.
Escobert often has work for ambitious young adventurers who
pass through the region. Another contact Ontharr has in
Greenest is a former adventuring associate, a level-headed
half-elf named Eadyan Falconmoon,
Falconmoon who leads the local temple
to Chauntea. He owes Ontharr a favor you can call in.
Faction Benefit: Each Order of the Gauntlet member who
makes contact with Eadyen may request one spell from the
following list for free at the Temple of Chauntea: Cure wounds
(1st level), identify, lesser restoration, prayer of healing (2nd
level), remove curse, speak with dead, divination, greater
restoration, raise dead. This is a one-time benefit that must be
used while the character is still in Greenest. The only cost paid
for the spell is the base price for the consumed material
component, if any.
