Stroke sensor for Electronically controlled valve such as FIVA/ELFI valve
ENGINE TYPE: ME series
A stroke sensor for detecting the main spool position (See below figure) is equipped on the
Electronically controlled valve (FIVA/ELFI valve) for HCU (Hydraulic Cylinder Unit) of ME series
engine
About this stroke sensor, zero/span adjustment of the main spool signal position has been done
in the shape of “a complete set” of Electronically controlled valve (FI VA /ELFI valve complete)
at the time of manufacture by the manufacturer.
Main spool function failure due to deflection of zero/span position caused by having
replacement of stroke sensor by itself only on board by ship crew was reported from an in -
service vessel.
Therefore, even if alarm/ failure of Electronically controlled valve (FIVA/ELFI valve) occurs and
there is a high possibility of stroke sensor failure, please do not carry out replacement of stroke
sensor only, on board by ship crew, but removal and replacement of Electronically controlled
valve (FIVA/ELFI valve) with spare should be done in COMPLETE SET without fail.
In the meantime, the pilot valve installed in the electronically controlled valve (FIVA/ELFI valve)
can be replaced by itself (replacement of the control valve only) on board.

Rev. 1 : Caution of cable wiring was added. (2/2 page) 8 May 2018

Please be careful not to apply excessive force to the root of the cable when wiring the stroke
sensor cable for replacement of electronically controlled valve (FIVA/ELFI valve).
An excessive force is applied to the root of the cable, which damages the cable and the cable
protection parts, and may break the board wiring inside the stroke sensor and may not be
able to detect the stroke of the main spool properly.
