BON AIR
The secret to
travelling light
Inspired by the world famous mountain races of Pikes
Peak in the Rocky Mountains, American Tourister’s
newest softside collection brings with it a sporty design
paired with comfort-enhancing features such as sturdy
double wheels. The fully featured cabin-sized model
weighs in at just 2kgs offering superior lightness to other
cases on the market. With its bright hues and contrasting
colour accents, the cases are a stylish and modern take
on the sporty look. Whatever is packed inside will be kept
safe and secure with a recessed 3-digit TSA Lock. No
matter whether you’re doing a dash through the airport
or heading to a mountain summit, the Pikes Peak range
is a clear winner.

COLOURS SPEAK
ALL LANGUAGES
When you’re trying to travel light, you don’t want
your suitcase to weigh more than your belongings.
Thanks to its cutting-edge design, the stylish Bon
Air range is extremely light weight and easy to
manoeuvre, while remaining strong enough to keep
what’s inside safe. Being one of the lightest models,
you can afford to pack a little more in your case
without worrying about being above the airline
weight limit. Belongings will also remain neatly
arranged thanks to Bon Air’s advanced interior
organisation system. A 100% polypropylene zipped
case, this is the first American Tourister collection
of its kind. If that weren’t revolutionary enough, it’s
now available in ten bright colours too, including
four new summer shades including bright coral and
deep turquoise.

LOCK’N’ROLL
from trend-setter
to jet-setter
Inspired by the Ombré effect (the gradual blending of
one colour hue into another) that has become such
a popular fashion trend of late, American Tourister
has incorporated the concept as part of the 2016
spring/summer collection. Based on the stylish Air
Force 1 range, this special new design is made of
polycarbonate combined with a printed gradient film.
In other words, it looks great and has a bright finish,
so it’s easy to spot on any luggage belt – and you’ll be
proud to claim it. The defining features of the Air Force
1 collection, such as expandability, smooth-rolling
double wheels and padded carrying handles, are still
included in this colourful collection. There are three
different gradient colours to choose from including
blue, pink and yellow. Your Air Force 1 Gradient will
become the ultimate travel accessory.

A ny two walks down Berlin’s side-streets will produce wildly different experiences. By night
you could come across a number of intense parties, easily staying out long enough to see the
sun rise. You could walk from café to café spotting groups of people in their 20s and 30s chatting,

like Berliner Ellen Teschendorf, who has four shops in the city, and go from hidden courtyards to flea
markets and boutiques, admiring the city’s uber-creative roots and obsession with avant-garde.
“Berlin is a very young city, so you can try anything you want here,” Teschendorf explains. “The
city gives you everything you want to be an artist or a designer. It has a marvellous atmosphere
because everyone is creative in this city.”
Born in East Berlin, Teschendorf feels the city has cemented her values and beliefs. “I would have
been a different person if I hadn’t grown up in Berlin,” she reckons. “Berlin is a cheap town – it’s easier
to start here with less money. People come here to live a little bit; it’s different to other cities.” This,
according to Teschendorf, is why Berlin boasts more creatives than some whole countries can claim.
“I had the chance to live in a different system,” she says. “You can have a peaceful time, a crowded
time, a party time, a creative time – any time!”
From lavish wares and vintage frills to German delicacies and farmer’s markets, you can find all
sorts simply by walking from one neighbourhood to another. Read on for Teschendorf ’s pick of the

THE VENUE
Converted 1920s cinema Pustervik is the
place to hear more established Swedish
and international acts, from First Aid
Kit and the Teddy Bears to Beck. With a
capacity of 750 people, Pustervik hosts
gigs nearly every night of the year, and the
medium-sized venue is large enough to
get the atmosphere you want from a live
show, without having to use binoculars
to see the artist on stage. “Music is air for
me,” explains Pustervik’s owner, nick-
named ‘Redtop’. Musicians play Pustervik
after they’ve established themselves in
Gothenburg’s underground scene, he con-
tinues. “There are a lot of underground,
illegal clubs in Gothenburg.” They’ve
evolved due to the strict alcohol licensing
laws, prohibiting certain venues wishing
to sell drink. “We call them ‘black clubs’.
They’re one of the most important aspects
to the city’s music scene. It’s where small
bands can do their first shows,” he says.
“There’s a very rebellious feel to the music
scene in Gothenburg, it’s extremely
important,” says Redtop. Those smaller
shows can make or break a band in
Gothenburg. “If you come to Gothenburg
and you do a good show, the reaction
will smack you in the face,” he says.
“Gothenburg is undoubtedly the best
music city in Scandinavia.” pustervik.nu

much more genuine and has more substance to it, it’s much more underground than
in Stockholm,” he explains. “We don’t have as much money here, Gothenburg is a
working-class city and you can feel it in the music. We have a load of different scenes,
from metal and psychedelic to techno and hip-hop.” Samie believes the rest of the
world could learn a thing or two from his city: “What music needs is for labels to
invest in other kinds of music, instead of the acts that get them the fast bucks.” The
way money is distributed in music needs to change, he adds, especially when it comes
to Spotify. “The people who get the most clicks get the most money. A kid who has
more time than me listens to the same song millions and millions of times. We need a
different royalty system, then the big labels will start investing in different acts,” he
says. “You could do a song with Donald Trump and he would be the biggest recording
artist because people would click, but I don’t want my money to go on a guy like that.

international stardom, half the band owns a
laid-back restaurant named 2112 in the centre

after the Rush album of the same name, the place
is a shrine to metal and rock. The blood-red
walls are covered with music memorabilia, from
photos with rock stars to signed drum skins and
menus, “Slipknot were in here last week and
we got them to sign the menu,” says bass player
Peter Iwers. “We wanted a place where everyone
could go, where everybody is welcome. Here you
can be dressed like a rock star, dressed in a suit,
or flip-flops and shorts, whatever goes. You are
always welcome.” 2112 not only sells local craft
beers and tasty music-inspired burgers (with
names like Hell Awaits, Smoke On The Water
and The Number Of The Beast), but also stages
intimate shows in the bar. “We do acoustic gigs

THE DJ
Originally from the small town of Vänersborg, north of
Gothenburg, Jonathan Anderzon plays cut-and-paste
tracks with influences from Afro-Caribbean music,
and elements of down-tempo hip-hop, funk and jazz.
Otherwise known as JayStarSeven, Anderzon cut his teeth
in the city’s underground scene. “When officials enforced
a curfew on Fridays for the clubs, there became loads
of underground illegal nights, a bit like squat parties.”
Now he has a residency at trendy hangout spot Barabicu.
“There’s been a real change in confidence in music here,
it’s an underground scene, people see music as a craft here
and all the musicians from here are so open-minded,” he
says. “Sweden itself is so small, which makes it even more
amazing what’s happening here music-wise.” JayStarSeven
