Drill 1 has players dribble along the baseline to improve handling and coordination. Drill 2 involves players moving forward or backward to hit tossed balls, working on footwork and ball control. Drill Bank

Drill #1: Dribbling

Mechanics:
1. After practicing how to dribble the ball in place, the player will dribble the ball
while running half the service line, as seen in the left side of the figure.
2. If the player can manage, he can also run the entire service line, as seen in the
right side of the figure. He can also be made to go back on forth from one
point to another. The goal is to improve footwork and hand-eye coordination.

Drill #2: Forward and Backward

X X
Mechanics:
1. The coach or partner (blue circle) will stay on the center service line.
2. He/she will toss the ball either behind the baseline or near the service line.
3. The receiving player (red circle) will either move forward or backward in order
to hit the ball properly. It should go across the net.

Drill #3: Laterals

Mechanics:
1. Similar to the Forward/Backward drill, the coach or partner will stay on the
center service line while the player will stay on the baseline.
2. The coach/player will toss the ball either to the right or left of the player, and
the player has run to the side and hit the ball.

Drill #4

X X
Mechanics:
1. Each pair will occupy the service boxes facing each other.
2. The “X” marks a pyramid of 4 balls stacked on each other.
3. The goal of each player is to hit the X on the other side of the court. For
example, the blue X is the target of the blue player.
4. The players will keep hitting and receiving the ball until it hits a pyramid/target.
5. When they hit the pyramid of balls, the balls fall, and the player wins a point.
6. The point system may vary, and they can use either forehand or backhand.

Drill #5

Mechanics:
1. The players will line up for their turn.
2. Each player will have three chances to hit the ball down the line (see figure)
through self-service. Player will hit the ball after bouncing it off the ground.
3. The drill can be repeated for backhand/forehand.
Drill #6

Mechanics:
1. The red circles are called the “champions” and the blue circles are
“challengers”.
2. Pairs will line up for their turn to play with the “champions”.
3. If the challengers win three (3) points, they become the new champions, and
they get to play against new challengers.
4. But if the champions win three points, it will be the next pair’s turn to play
against them.

Drill #7
Mechanics:
1. The coach (green circle) will feed the ball to the player (blue circle).
2. The player has to hit the players across the court (red circles).
3. The players across the court can only stay in place, so it is up to the player to
aim well so that they can receive it.
4. The player will be given three chances to hit each target, and the players
(other blue circles) will take turns to hit the targets.

Drill #8

Mechanics:
1. The players will be lined up on the baseline. Each of them will wait for their turn
to hit the ball.
2. The coach will hit the ball and aim for the X-mark, and a player will sprint to the
service line to hit the ball, then sprint out of the court to give way for the other
players.
3. This drill focuses more on agility and footwork as well as hitting the ball right.
