Introduction To LEED PDF

The document introduces LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), a green building rating system developed by the USGBC (United States Green Building Council). It was founded in 1993 to promote sustainability in the built environment. LEED provides third-party verification that a building was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across metrics like energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts. LEED-certified buildings are designed to lower operating costs, reduce waste, conserve energy and water, and be healthier and safer for occupants while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
