Bearing Swaging Portable

The document describes the bearing swaging process using a portable tri-roller tool. It involves mounting a locating ring and draw rod through the bearing bore, then placing the swaging head assembly and adding pressure by turning the tensioner to push the rollers against the bearing. The process is repeated, increasing pressure each time until the bearing lip shows a minimal gap. The quality is then checked before removing the tool and finished.

Mount draw rod with locating ring thru bearing bore.
Make sure the flat side (Primary) is facing the bearing
While holding draw rod with locator
Turn tensioner clockwise until rollers
place swaging head assembly
touch bearing
onto the rod
Once rollers are in contact with bearing start turning swaging head one to two
rotations at a time. Keep on adding pressure by turning tensioner 1/3 (max) of a turn
every step
*Do not over-tension, bearing or tool damage may result*
Keep on swaging until bearing lip shows minimal
gap in housing’s chamfer. Also: provided set screw

tensioner can be done simultaneously
Check quality of the swaged bearing lip. A
Dismount swaging head by .003”-.005” feeler gage shall be used. Repeat
holding it in place while turning swaging process adding more pressure if the
tensioner counter clockwise gap is too large
Properly swaged bearing Improper swaging shows gap larger
than .005”
Flip the locating rim from

Now install the swaging head on the
other side of the bearing and repeat the
swaging process using the same principals
as for the first side

Swage the second side completely. Re-swage is

permitted if not completed the first time
Put swaging tool back together. Clean

Dismount the tool by holding swaging head

and turning the tensioner counterclockwise.
Take draw rod with locator out
