Lesson Plan

This lesson plan outlines a 60-minute physical education class to teach Grade 10 students about physical fitness. The lesson will begin with an energizing dance video to motivate students. Students will then learn the components of both health-related and skill-related physical fitness through a presentation and discussion. As an activity, students will be divided into groups to choreograph and perform dances demonstrating the different fitness components. Finally, students will participate in a question-and-answer game to evaluate their understanding of physical fitness.

Lesson Plan

Time Limit: 60 minutes

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of this lesson, the Grade 10 students shall:
1. define physical fitness;
2. able to discuss the components of physical fitness;
3. able to apply the components of physical fitness in the given activity.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

 Topic/Lesson: Physical Fitness
 Reference: Physical Fitness and Health Learners Module
 Instructional Material/s: Cartolina, Marker, Colored paper, scissors and tape.
 Vocabulary Words:
 Fitness- the condition of being physically fit and healthy.
 Stimulation- the action of arousing interest, enthusiasm, or excitement.
 Equilibrium- a state of physical balance.
 Fatigue- extreme tiredness resulting from mental or physical exertion or illness.

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preparation
a.1 Motivation: The teacher will prepare a dance video that serves as an energetic
energizer for the students.
a.2 Review: The teacher will ask the students on how they feel when they were dancing
while looking on the video presented.

B. Presentation/Discussion

The Components of Health-Related Physical Fitness

Body Composition
- The relative percentage of muscle, fat ,bone, and other tissues that make up the body.
Percentage of body fat (body fatness) is relatively low but not too low for a fit person.

Muscular Endurance
- The ability of the muscles to exert themselves repeatedly. One is considered fit if he
can repeat movements for a long period of time without undue fatigue.
Cardio-vascular Fitness
- This is the ability of the heart, blood vessels, blood, and respiratory system to supply
nutrients and oxygen to the muscles and the ability of the muscles to utilize fuel to
allow sustained exercise. A person who is fit can persist in physical activity for
relatively long period without undue stress.
Strength
- The ability of the muscles to exert an external force or to lift a heavy weight. One is
considered fit if he can do work or play that involves exerting force, such as lifting or
controlling one’s own body weight.

Flexibility
- This is the range of motion available in a joint. It is affected by muscle length, joint
structure, and other factors. A fit person can move the body joints through a full range
of motion in work and in play.

The Components of Skill-Related Physical Fitness

Agility
- This is the ability to rapidly and accurately change the direction of the movement of
the entire body in space.
Ex. Skiing and wrestling, these activities require exceptional agility.

Power
- This is the ability to transfer energy into force at a fast rate.
Ex. Discuss throwing and putting the shot

Reaction Time
- This is the time elapsed between stimulation at the beginning of the reaction to that
stimulation.
Ex. Driving a racing car and starting a sprint race are activities that require good
reaction time.

Coordination
- This is the ability to use the senses with the body parts to perform motor task
smoothly and accurately.
Ex. Juggling, hitting a tennis ball, and kicking a ball.

Speed
- This is the ability to perform a movement in a short period of time.
Ex. Sprinting, this needs a good foot and leg speed.
Balance
- This is the maintenance of equilibrium while stationary or while moving.
Ex. Performing on the balance beam requires exceptional balance.

C. Application
The teacher will divide the class into five groups. Afterwards, she will instruct the
students about the activity wherein each group will present a dance that is related to the exercises
of the components of skill-related and health-related physical fitness for 3 minutes. This activity
is equal to 100 points.

Criteria for Judging:

Creativity- 30%
Originality- 25%
Relevance to the Topic- 25%
Stage Presence- 20%
Overall 100 points

IV. EVALUATION

The teacher will divide the class into two groups. Afterwards, she will provide 2
whiteboards and pens in each group for the activity “Write and Raise”. The teacher will prepare
questions which is divided into (3) rounds (easy, average, and difficult). Students will write their
answers and raise it after the question has been given. Whoever raises the board first and have
the correct answer will receive corresponding points.

The prepared questions are;

Easy:
1. Define physical fitness in simple word.
2. It is the body’s ability to change direction at speed.
3. The relative percentage of muscle, fat, bone, and other tissues that make up the body.

Average:
1. What component of fitness would be required for the splits or high kick?
2. What component involves working continuously for a long period of time?
3. Which component is most important for long-distance swimming?

Difficult:
1. What appropriate exercise to develop abdominal muscular endurance?
2. What are the health-related physical fitness?
3. Which of the following terms describes the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to exert
force for extended periods?

V. ASSIGNMENT
Give atleast 2 pictures of exercises in every component of health-related and skill-related.
Write it on your notebook.

Afterwards, she will present pictures of the examples of every component health-related and
skill-related physical fitness and let the students to distinguish to what component the picture
belongs.
Whoever gives the first correct answer will gain points.

The prepared pictures of the teachers are the following;
