Drug Carbocisteine

Carbocisteine is a mucolytic drug used to treat respiratory diseases by thinning mucus in the lungs and respiratory tract. It should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity or who have ulcerated stomachs or gastrointestinal bleeding. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea and allergic reactions. Nurses should assess for allergies and history of ulcers or bleeding before administering carbocisteine and monitor patients closely due to the risk of worsening existing gastrointestinal conditions.
