File Management Structure for Assignments

Overview
To allow your assignments to be easily assessed, you are required to store each assignment in a specific folder.
This document explains the folder structure you are to create, outlines the naming conventions to use for the
folders, and lists the process for storing and naming your assignment items.

Creating the folder structure

1. Create a folder for each training unit that you participate in, using the associated code (for example,
ACQ201) for the folder name.
2. For each assignment, create these subfolders, as required:

Name of sub- Used to store ...

folder
CreatedFiles Any output generated in your assignment. For example: pdf from report object, txt files from
exports.
Data Data needed to complete the assignment. For example a sif file for an importer.
Database Any database backups created for, or to be used in, the assignment.
Documentation Documentation of any kind, including original and completed assignment sheets.
Workspace Any workspaces and objects created or used to complete your assignment.

Example:
The unit you are participating in has a code of ACQ201. It has two assignments. Your folder structure would
look like this:

Saving your assignment items

When you are ready to save the items for your assignment, store them in the appropriate subfolder (as outlined
above).

Where it is not stipulated in an assignment, use the following naming convention for a file or object you have
created:
SurnameI_AssX_Name.ext
Where:
Surname is your surname
I is the initial of your first name
X is the assignment number
Name is the name of the file or object you have created. This can be any length.
ext is the type of file extension, as it relates to the file.
For example, your name is Adam Smith. You might store a:
Database backup file as SmithA_Ass1_aQ202.bak
QAQC object as SmithA_Ass5_QAQCPairedData.qaqc
