Rationale
Teaching is a profession that requires a lot of hard work on the part of
teachers in order to ensure that the learning goals or objectives are met at the
end of the day or semester. However, a teacher’s job does not end with only
teaching. As stated in DepED Memorandum No. 291 s. 2008, teachers are also
expected to perform tasks beside rendering six hours of teaching. They also
have to prepare lesson plans, manage misbehaviors, attend seminars, consult
parents, coach students including home visits, and others. Aside from the
professional responsibilities, teachers have other tasks they have to attend to.
As stated by Tan (2017), teachers also have to attend to their family, social life
and other commitments. Thus, it is no denying that teaching is indeed a very
stressful job to handle.
As noble as it is, teaching is considered as one of the most stressful jobs
one can work for. According to the report conducted by Worth, Lynch, Hillary,
Rennie, & Andrade (2018), teachers experience more stress than other workers.
According to Ansley, McPhee, Meyer, & Varjas (2018), stress is a threat that
negatively affects the teachers’ well-being and is also experienced at a high
level everyday by nearly half of all teachers. Thus, the paper aims to study the
factors affecting teachers stress and the coping strategies of Cotabato City
State Polytechnic College Faculty.
Research Questions
The study aims to examine the factors affecting teacher stress and
coping strategies of Cotabato City State Polytechnic College Faculty.
Specifically, it seeks to answer the following:
1) What is the demographic profile of the teachers teaching at Cotabato City
State Polytechnic College?
2) What are the factors affecting teacher stress experiences of Cotabato City
State Polytechnic College faculty?
3) What are the coping strategies teachers use to combat stress in Cotabato
City State Polytechnic College?
Research Methodology
This chapter presents the methods to be used in the study. It also
describes the subjects of the study, the instrument to be used, the procedure
of gathering data, and the statistical treatment of the data.
This study will determine the demographic profile of CCSPC faculty, the
factors affecting their stress, and the coping strategies they used to combat
stress.
Methods
The study will use both Quantitative and Qualitative design. Specifically,
it will utilize survey questioners and interview session to gather data. Surveys
questioners will be used to identify the demographic profile of the subjects, as
well as their insights on the factors affecting teachers stress, and their coping
strategies. Moreover, interview sessions will be conducted to further generate
data on their experiences regarding the problem.
Subjects of the Study and Sampling
In this study, the target population is the faculty of Cotabato City State
Polytechnic College—specifically, the teachers teaching at college level. Random
Sampling will be used to select the participants of the survey questioner.
On the other hand, convenience sampling will be used for the interview
sessions. Interviewees will be randomly approached from the participants of
the survey questioners. Individualize, semi-structured interview will be utilized.
Procedures
For the survey questioner, the following are the procedures to be followed
during the study:
1. Distribution of questionnaires and Data Gathering
2. Collection of questionnaires and tallying
3. Analysis and interpretation of the results
On the other hand, the following will be followed in the conduct of th
Interview:
1. Setting of interview date
2. Interview sessions
3. Analysis and interpretation of the data
Treatment of the Data
To interpret the gathered data, the researcher will use the following:
1. For the survey questioners: Percentage, Arithmetic Mean, and Standard
deviation will be utilized to describe the profile of the respondents, the
factors affecting stress, and the coping strategies.
2. For the interview sessions: Thematic Analysis will be used to determine
the common themes of the data.
