PRESENT TENSE

I.    Simple Present Tense or Present Indefinite Tense

The Simple Present Tense is used:

1. To express what is actually taking place at the present moment; as:


See, how it rains.
2. To express a habitual action; as:
He gets up everyday at six o’clock.
3. To express general truths; as:
The sun rises in the east.
4. In vivid narrative as a substitute for the Past Tense; as:
Immediately the Sultan hurries to his capital.
(This is called the historic present)

Structure of Simple Present:


—> Subject + V1/Vs (s or es)
