KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 20): Malaysia's theme parks and attractions are one of the
worst-hit leisure segments as both domestic and foreign tourists shy away from
crowded places for fear of contracting the deadly coronavirus.

Malaysian Association of Amusement Theme Park & Family Attractions (MAATFA)

president Tan Sri Richard Koh told theedgemarkets.com that visitorship in January,
post-Chinese New Year, dropped 38%, and that in the first 20 days of February,
patronage tumbled by a staggering 80%.

As a result, Koh expects the industry, of which all categories of attractions have been
affected "... especially waterparks and family entertainment centres and playland," to
take between six and nine months to recover.

Theme parks, amusement parks and attractions located in Kuala Lumpur, Johor,
Sabah, Sarawak and Melaka have been worse hit, he said.

Whether indoor or outdoor, the parks have not been spared. As a result, all F&B and
retail businesses are also suffering.

Some of Malaysia's popular water parks include Sunway Lagoon, Lost World of
Tambun, Legoland Water Park and Adventure Waterpark Desaru Coast.

Listed companies with theme parks and attraction components include Sunway Bhd,
Sentoria Group Bhd and I-Bhd.

As a result, Koh expects the industry, of which all categories of attractions have been
affected "... especially waterparks and family entertainment centres and playland," to
take between six and nine months to recover. A good maintenance system, in terms
of response capacity and flexibility, has however immediate effects on customer
satisfaction and revenue, thus with proper implementation, parks usually have specific
maintenance divisions. Briefly Discuss with example. (18m)

Answers

COVID-19, which is now hitting the country and the world, has had a negative impact
on the country's tourism industry. When this industry is affected, the country economy
is also receiving a directly impact and also affect the income of the players in the
tourism industry. The Malaysian Theme Parks and Family Entertainment Association
(MAATFA) revealed that the sector suffered losses of RM40 million during January
and February due to the lack of visitors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The effects
of the Covid-19 outbreak may include the temporary suspension of large public
gatherings, recreational place such as waterparks and family entertainment centres
and playland. Despite the closure of amenities and recreation areas but people still
can-do daily walking and recreational activities. Agencies should be adjusted in order
to accommodate for public use that can be accepted by the health authorities.
Agencies need to be prepared for unexpected or unplanned public use, as was the
case during the previous government shutdown because this was a situation that had
never happened before. Besides, the affected industry takes time between six and
nine months to recover. They need to make sure the maintenance system was in good
condition, in terms of response capacity and flexibility. Parks usually have specific
maintenance divisions.

The primary goal of the Park Maintenance Division is to provide safe and clean
facilities while protecting the natural and cultural resources of each facility. Goals and
objectives are accomplished through the maintenance of parks and facilities by
reliable and well-trained staff. Duties and responsibilities of Park maintenance division
is to maintains all park facilities including the Playground equipment, Recreational
fields, Walking path, Interpretive signage, on-site parking and etc.For the first main
maintenance department is Depatment health in theme park. This department must
always carry out health checks on workers and theme park areas. This will ensure that
the health of the theme park does not have any contagious diseases that will allow
workers and visitors to develop dangerous diseases.Next is department maintenance
of landscape. The division needs to make sure that the landscape of the theme park
is not as bad as the trees are not dead, the flowers are not withered and so on so that
the theme parks are in good condition even when no visitors are coming. We know that
in this pandemic covid-19 there are no tourist come but they need to sustain the area
to avoid damage and make the company more vulnerable to the landscape

Next the division department in theme park is division of grounda and water
game department such as roller coaster, pirates revenge , pedestrian suspension
bridge, vuvuzela , Colorado splash and other else. before the health issue arise the

theme park was always open and used by everyone due to this problem the game was
no longer used but the maintenance of the section had to run so that the game was
not damaged. For the water-based part of the game it is necessary to do a check in
the pool, sliding water and others have no moss or cracking effect on the part of the
pool and sliding.Lastly what I know the division in theme park is building maintenance
or engineering maintenance. Building maintenance includes cleaning common areas,
removing trash regularly, and repairing items that are broken. It can involve inspecting,
repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, heating and air conditioning systems,
and other utility services. This divison help the theme park to manage and maintain the
building at theme park.

The conclusion is maintenance in theme park are very need because

managment maintenance in theme parks is important because they are one of the
parts that can help the theme parks continue to suffer losses and defects in theme
parks in the absence of visitors. The theme park in this world desperatly need this
division to maintain the theme can progress smoothly without any problems.

Question 3:

Recommend four strategies for theme park business growth due to Covid-19 issues
arise. Briefly Discuss with example. (12m)

Nowdays the world is experiencing a covid outbreak 19 which has spread throughout
the world many activities in the world has been stop include all the theme park in the
world.Theme Park in malaysia has lost about 40 millions for each theme park in
malaysia. After the end of this pandemic the theme park authority or management
should think of a strategy to restore the business growth to theme park.
In addition, the government and NGOs such as the Malaysian Theme Park and Family
Entertainment Center (MATFAA) should also help the theme parks rebuild their
business after suffering tens of millions of dollars after the covid-19 pandemic. We
know that the tourism sector is unlikely to have overseas tourist to come to Malaysia
in 2021 so the theme parks have to think about ways to re-finance the theme park.

There are many strategies that theme park should do to attract back customer
to come and have fun at their place. For the first strategy that theme park should do
when a tourism sector such as a theme park is allowed to operate according to the
standard of operation given by the government is crazy package that can attract local
tourist to come and have fun.For the good example , they have to do a low ticket price
and offer a cheap package. This way can make local tourists come to play after the
absence of foreign tourists. This will also help the theme owners recover from the loss
without any tourists coming.Next for the second strategy to improve back their
business is by tightening the safety and health system at the theme park. For example
, the management should have tunnel sanitation and check the health of tourists
before entering the theme park area. In addition, the theme parks have to regularly
sanitize each area within the theme park and require visitor to follow the Standars Of
Procuder such as social distancing and wear a face mask when they in the theme
park.
Other than that, management of theme park should offer a best price for
membership to the local people. This way can make visitor always come to their theme
park.In example the theme park will not have any visitors because they have
purchased a membership pass to attend the theme park regularly. For the last strategy
that theme park should do is Talk to the government to help the theme parks like MICE
or family day at the theme park. This can help theme park to growth their business well
after the covid-19.
