This document provides an overview of morphology, the study of word formation and structure. It defines key morphological concepts like roots, themes, inflectional affixes, and derivational affixes. Roots are the core meaning of a word, while themes may or may not coincide with the root. Inflectional affixes indicate properties like gender, number, tense, and can form words on their own. Derivational affixes like prefixes and suffixes form new words and cannot stand alone. The document categorizes morphological elements and provides examples to illustrate different concepts.
