2.1.1: Welcome To The Course!

This course introduces equivalent circuit cell modeling of lithium-ion battery cells. It will cover developing mathematical descriptions of how a cell's voltage responds to current, laboratory tests to gather parameter data, analyzing data to determine parameter values, simulating battery cells and packs with code, and simulating battery loads. Students will learn how to write equations for equivalent circuit models, compute parameter values from test data, determine coulombic efficiency from tests, and simulate batteries, gaining skills useful for battery management and control.

Welcome to Equivalent Circuit Cell Model Simulation!

This course is the second in a specialization that investigates
the proper management and control of battery packs, usually comprising many cells
To be able to estimate SOC, SOH, available power and
energy, we require a mathematical description (or “model”)
of how battery cells work
An additional benefit is that we can use model to develop
programs to simulate operation of battery cells and packs
Models describing battery and its load can be co-simulated to determine how they
will operate together, which can be very helpful to evaluate system design

In this course, you will learn:

How to write equations that describe how
a cell’s voltage responds to a change in its input current
The laboratory tests needed to gather data required to find
unknown parameter values in these equations
How to analyze these data to find the parameter values
How to write code to simulate battery cells and packs
How to simulate a representative battery load (honors)
