APPLICATION OF ANALYTICS IN DIFFERENT INDUSTRY

1. APPLICATION IN SPORTS INDUSTRY

Sports industry is that kind of industry which is going at a very fast rate every year. For
such a rapidly growing industry the use of big data analytics is necessary to understand
the performance of the team and the individual. New technologies are being
integrated into various teams and sports throughout the world to attain that
competitive edge which puts them a step ahead of the competitors. Some of the
technologies incorporated with big data analytics which are used in sports are:
• Camera Sensors:
This technology is used by many football teams on the pitch in various leagues
like Serie A, La Liga, English Premier League, Ligue 1, Bundesliga etc. to
understand the behaviour of the players on the field. The data that is collected
from these sensors can be used by the managers and other team authorities
to analyse how each of the player interacts with each other and also among
each other. Analysing this data can help to improve the accuracy and the
overall performance of the team and also the players can assess themselves
through this data and spend more training hours to better their skills. In case
of a bad game the players can go back and check the available statistics
obtained through these analytics to know what went wrong and where it went
wrong.
• Wearable Technology: -
Wearable technologies are those kinds of technologies which can be adapted
quickly and can be utilised in sports, especially in games with high contact such
as Rugby. This technology in lowering the rate of injury and also in increasing
the performance simultaneously. By coupling this data with the historic
statistics obtained through the analysis of data captured through camera helps
to understand the strength and weakness of each player.
• Finding the right player: -
Tools such as Tableau helps the managers and scouts to analyse the players to
find out where the player fits in, in each team, in each formation and in each
strategy. This data can be assessed real time to make decisions mid match
which can become the turning point of the match.

APPLICATION OF ANALYTICS IN DIFFERENT INDUSTRY

Example 1: Big Data Analytics in Cricket: -

The use of Big Data Analytics in cricket is termed as Crilytics. Crilytics enhances the
team with the ability to make decisions that are accurate regarding the game which
are unpredictable. Under the International Cricket Council (ICC) there are 105
countries which are playing cricket both at International and Domestic level. The
amount of data generated when a game is played is enormous, with the necessity of
recording the runs scored, the balls faced,
boundaries scored, run rate, over rate per
hour etc. needs to be recorded under
specific category. And by using Crilytics
assessing the stats of each player becomes
easy. During the ICC T20 World Cup,
players stats analysis helped to evaluate
the predict the performance of each game
and was able to predict the possible semi-finalists.
Example 2: Big Data Analytics in Formula 1: -
The world famous F1 team, the Mclaren Group has always been using the best out of
data analytics. They have installed special sensors on their cars as well as in the racing
pits which helps them to obtain data regarding the speed of the car, on a continuous
lane as well as at different turning points, tyre pressure, engine burning etc. There is
a team of engineers assigned with each car but they have limitations regarding the
collection of data and this is where the Big Data Analytics comes into play. A single
sensor can collect up to 1GB of data at an instance when the speed reaches 200 mph,
so imagine the amount of data collected by a bunch of sensors at different speeds and
at different occasions, which in turn can be used to analyse the performance and
detect the lacking areas and work for the development of those areas.

2. APPLICATION IN GAMING INDUSTRY

The gaming industry, especially online gaming, is one of the fastest profit-making
industries growing on a day by day basis and considering the current situation of
lockdown, the amount of data generated due to online gaming has rose to levels like
never before. By using the Big Data Analytics, the online gaming platform is able to

provide the gamers with the utmost fabulous experience and entertainment while
gaming. Data is collected by monitoring the online activity. But it is not only about
monitoring but also about the perks generated while you log in like creating an
account, building the player profile step by step. The speciality of online gaming is that
whenever you access it there is always something different about it like the availability
of certain tools and levels being rendered as and according to the gamers level and
making it more and more challenging to the gamers.
This Big Data Analytics are also used in marketing of the game. By tracking the gaming
data, the organisations will know at which level they need to promote the product to
turn in more gamers into their gaming platform.
Example 1: Big Data Analytics is PUBG: -
Since PUBG started in 2015, they have broken
several world records such as the fastest million
seller game, fastest to reach 100 million and the first
steam game to have turned in over 2 million players.
All this has been possible because they have
maintained a premium level of gaming experience
with adequate features using Big Dara Analytics.
Here also the tool they are using to enhance the
gaming experience through data collection and analysis is Tableau, which is a simple
UI which makes extracting and visualising the data efficient. The amount of data that
is being analysed by Tableau after every single classic game in PUBG is in petabytes.
By analysing this data and processing the outcomes, the gaming personnel is able to
create conditions in every classic game different and challenging and the players will
have to search for the loot which keeps on changing in every game.
Example 2: Big Data Analytics in Pro Evolution Soccer (PES): -
For every football lover when it comes to online gaming PES is always the first option.
The gaming experience they have provided is very much similar to the real-life gaming
experience. Being an online game and generating Terabytes of data, the use of Big
Data Analytics becomes inevitable for the Konami Group, the owners of PES. Through
this game players all around the world are able to go head on head against each other
no matter wherever they are. Analysing the peak gaming time, the gaming personnel

provides less ping to the gamers to have better gaming experience and being able to
customize their own teams with legendary players. The box Draw feature in PES is
completely driven by Big Data Analytics. This helps to give each and every player a
balanced team while drawing a ball in the box draw where a gamer can get the black
ball player when its necessary or to go with the simple gold ball player or the silver
ball player if that gamer already has a perfectly balanced team up his sleeve. This
maintains a stability and incurs a challenging attitude to each and every gamer to go
for the online head on head match each and every time they log in to this game.

3. APPLICATION IN MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY

Big Data Analytics plays a vital role in the modern manufacturing process. With the
advent of Industry 4.0 and advance technologies like robotics and high levels of
automation has dramatically changed the entire face of manufacturing.
By installing sensors into the equipment, manufacturers are able to capture valuable
data that assist them in monitoring and evaluating the performance, health and
efficiency of the machines used in manufacturing. From jet engines to yoga mats,
sensors are being installed to gather data regarding the performance. The Big Data
Analytics helps the manufacturers to forecast the demand of their product and also it
helps them in JUST IN TIME (JIT) production. They can vary their production according
to the stats. Big Data Analytics provides 360o assessment about the overall
performance of the organisation which helps them to make important decisions
regarding the business plans. Some of the Key players in Big Data Analytics in
Manufacturing market are VIS, MicroStrategy, IBM, SAP, Tableau, SAS, Oracle,
Information Builders and Qlik Technologies. Analysis on the basis of factors such as
Age, Gender, Occupation, Income Level are applicable using these players.
The Outcome of all these which will be beneficial to the manufacturers is that it will
help them to discover new information and identify patterns which constantly help
them to improve their processes, increase the efficiency of the supply chain and also
to identify the different variables that affect their production.
