Input Devices Lesson Plan

The document summarizes a 40-minute lesson on input devices taught by Daisy Perez to a Form 1 information technology class. The lesson defines input devices as those that input data and programs into a computer. It discusses common input devices like keyboards, mice, touchpads, scanners, light pens, joysticks, microphones, and graphic tablets; how they function; and activities for students to identify, research, and explain different input devices. The lesson aims to help students understand how data is entered and processed in computers.

Teacher: Daisy Perez

Subject: Information Technology

Duration: 40 minutes
Level: Form 1
Topic: Input Devices
Sub-topic: Keyboard, Mouse, Touchpad, Scanner, light pen, Joystick, Microphone, Graphic
Tablet
Previous Knowledge:
 Students are aware of what is a computer
 Students are able to identify different parts of a computer.
Content:

The devices which are used to input the data and the programs in the computer are known as
"Input Devices". Or Input device can read data and convert them to a form that a computer can
use.
Keyboard : Keyboard is used in the input phase of a computer-based information system.
Keyboard is most common input device is used today. The data and instructions are input by
typing on the keyboard.

Mouse: It’s a
pointing device. The mouse is rolled over the mouse pad, which in turn
controls the movement of the cursor in the screen. We can click, double
click or drag the mouse. Most of the mouse’s have a ball beneath them,
which rotates when the mouse in moved. The ball has 2 wheels of the
sides, which in turn mousse with the movement of the ball. The sensor
notifies the speed of its movements to the computer, which in turn
moves the cursor/pointer on the screen.

Touchpad: A touchpad is a common substitute for a computer mouse.

Essentially a specialized surface that can detect the movement pf the
users finger and use that information to direct a pointer and control a
computer. It can be found on laptops.
Scanner : Scanners are used to enter information directly in to the computers memory. This
device works like a Xerox machine. The scanner converts any type of printed or written
information including photographs into digital pulses, which can be manipulated by the
computer.

Light Pen: This is an input device which is used to draw lines or figures on a computer screen.
It’s touched to the CRT screen where it can detect raster on the screen as it passes.

Joystick: Are commonly used as a way of controlling computer video games.

Microphone: Captures audio and send it to the computer, where the audio is
converted to a digital format.

Graphic Tablet: Are input devices used for converting hand drawn art work into
digital images. The user draws with a stylus on a s special flat surface.

Skills:
 Answering questions
 List different Input devices
Attitudes:
 Appreciate the need for various input devices

Materials: Computers, Tablets, PowerPoint, Smart Phones, Internet, YouTube
Objectives: Through zoom video call, PowerPoint presentation and interaction with
YouTube videos students will be able to:
1. Define the term Input device.
2. List at least five input devices.
3. Explain the function of at least three input devices.
4. Understand how data is entered and processed.

Activities:
Introduction:
1. Have students join the zoom video call.
2. Have students review the different computer parts whereby students will be selected
randomly to list the parts.
3. Students will be introduced to input devices by sharing my PowerPoint screen via the
zoom call.
4. Have students read aloud the different examples and definition of input devices.

Development:
5. Have students research for at least two new input devices using the link shared to them
via zoom. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZmc4jHu284 or

6. Have students share their research with classmates and discuss.
Conclusion:
7. Have students complete a worksheet via google classroom.
Extended activity:
8. Have students create a booklet on Input devices using
https://app.lucidpress.com/documents#/dashboard.
9. Have students share their booklet link when their done.
